‘My house is the only one on the street with no condensation!’ Woman shares FREE hack she uses to keep her windows dry
HEATING, high humidity and plummeting temperatures can seriously affect our homes in the winter and it can feel impossible to stop condensation.
Rather than spending hours wiping down every surface though, one woman has revealed how she stopped condensation with her simple hack – which will cost you nothing.
By doing this, you allow any trapped humidity to escape without sacrificing all your heat and racking up those energy bills.
If you live in the UK or anywhere with a cold climate, you’ll probably be pretty used to waking up with condensation on your window.
Though it’s undeniably annoying, this household nuisance can lead to some serious issues if left untreated – such as black mould.
As part of their winter campaign, the NHS has warned that damp and mould makes you more likely to have respiratory infections, allergies and even asthma.
If you live in the UK or anywhere with a cold climate, you’ll probably be pretty used to waking up with condensation on your window.
Though it’s undeniably annoying, this household nuisance can lead to some serious issues if left untreated – such as black mould.
Worryingly, even a small amount of damp or mould can put your loved ones at risk.
As part of their winter campaign, the NHS has warned that damp and mould makes you more likely to have respiratory infections, allergies and even asthma.
Whilst it can feel like a never ending battle as you wipe down the windows, there is a surprisingly simple solution.
Shared by a domestic goddess on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group, the Facebook user claimed that ‘good ventilation’ was key.
She said: “I have my window open at night when I’m in bed. Not wide open just about an inch and I never ever get any.
“In fact, my house is the only one on my street that doesn’t get condensation on windows.”
Someone replied: “I keep my window open only a little bit in the night and it works for me.”
“Free way to get rid of condensation = opening windows lol” joked a third.
Despite many people swearing by this tried and tested method, one user was incredibly sceptical about this hack.
In fact, she warned others not to use the cleaning method as it could put your home at risk.
The concerned Facebook user commented: “Please think twice about leaving a window open when you are not at home and/or awake – it is an open invitation to burglars.
“If your window is open and the neighbour’s is closed they will choose your house.”
Frighteningly, even opening a window upstairs might not be a solution as burglars will often use wheelie bins or similar household object to get access.
However, the cleaning expert had another important reason why you shouldn’t leave open windows unattended.
“Plus, if you do get burgled and access is via an open window your insurance will most likely be void.
“Not writing this to scare people but burglaries happen and would hate to read about someone becoming a victim,” she added.
If you are concerned about this, you can modify the method slightly and open multiple windows for a shorter time.
Or many windows have a security latch on that locks them into place when they are opened an inch – and you can’t open them further from the outside.
This mould busting tactic comes from Germany and is called ‘Stoffluften’, with homeowners throwing open all their windows for short bursts – usually only three minutes.
By doing this, you allow any trapped humidity to escape without sacrificing all your heat and racking up those energy bills.
Hopefully, this will put an end to condensation collecting around your windows.
