I tried Aldi’s festive chocolate smash cake to see if it’s worth £14.99 – it’s theatrical but not everyone will like it
IT’S one of the must-buy items in Aldi’s Christmas food selection.
And one man who spent £14.99 on the new smashed dome cake from the discount store has insisted it’s worth splashing out on.
He took to TikTok to share a review of the dessert, kicking off with his thoughts about its appearance.
“It looks great,” he said.
“Pretty spectacular chocolate cake with a pretty chocolate covered dome.”
And the dome, which is “covered in lots of chocolatey goodness”, is also made from “very good quality” chocolate.
“It looks very theatrical,” he said.
“Chocolate balls, chocolate shavings, everything chocolate basically.”
And he loved the “smash” aspect of the cake – where he took a spoon and smashed it through the top of the dome.
He then moved on to sharing his thoughts about the cake, which he called a “very moist, yummy chocolate cake”.
“I have to say, I do love a chocolate cake, but it has to be moist,” he said.
“I can’t stand a dry cake. There’s nothing worse!”
But that’s not to say that everyone will like the cake.
“I will say the cake is very rich just because there’s so much chocolate on it, which some people will probably see that as a negative thing,” he added.
“But I actually think it’s a good thing as you don’t need a huge slice of the cake and it will go a lot further.”
“So do I think it’s worth the hefty 15 pound price tag?” he concluded.
“I think in the current climate, yes, it’s well worth it.
“You get a lot of chocolate on the cake.
“It’s a big cake made with good quality. So I’d give it a high 8.5 out of ten.”
People were quick to comment on the video review, with one writing: “Looks good, but not worth the price!”
“Get a chocolate cake for Lidl for a fiver, bling it up for £2, done!” another added.
“I have one of these I hope it’s as good as it looks,” a third commented.
“£15 a lot of money but looks good,” someone else wrote.
To which the man replied: “I agree but some m and s ones are £18 lol!”
“They all be a fiver next week,” another pointed out.
