Show-stopping Christmas dessert takes minutes to make and only needs two cupboard staples – including Nutella
DURING the festive season, many of us will spend hours slaving away over hot stoves and obsessing about stuffing.
Though we might not be able to help you with the main event, there is a simple dessert which should impress even the fussiest of eaters over the festive period.
If that didn’t fill you with Christmas cheer, you’ll be relieved to hear that the tempting treat only needs two ingredients.
You won’t have the travel the frozen wastes either, as these household staples are usually already lurking in our freezer or at the back of the cupboard.
With just two sheets of pre-made puff pastry and a jar of Nutella, you can make the ultimate Christmas tear and share – with less than ten minutes prep time.
With over 80,000 views on Tiktok, it’s not hard to understand why this recipe has gone viral in recent years.
It’s so simple that even the kids can get involved with making this tempting treat, as influencer @themodernnonna demonstrates in her viral video
The cooking whizz begins the short tutorial by rolling out one sheet of puff pastry a baking tray.
It’s worth noting that she uses a 10″ x 10″ sheet but depending on how guests you have on the big day, you can tailor this to your needs.
Next, you can spread generous amount of Nutella, or a nut free alternative, across the sheet – trying to ensure that it is evenly spread throughout.
Take a chance to wash off any sticky fingers before moving on, including your own, as you’ll need clean hands for the next bit .
Grabbing another sheet of pre-made puff pastry, you need to gently place it on top of the chocolate spread whilst squeezing out as little as possible.
Gently pat in place and then you are ready to trim the tree, literally!
After dusting your creation with a little flour, use a sharp knife to it into a large triangle – leaving two pieces.
You’ll need to put aside one of the scrap pieces, as this can be used for adding decorations later.
The other leftover piece can be joined to your triangle, gently pushing it together with your fingers – as the influencer shows.
Once this is done, you can then use your knife to cut a tree shape with a trunk at the base.
You can then add branches by cutting slits on both sides of the tree, making sure you leave a good gap (roughly half an inch/1.27cm) between each cut.
With your Christmas treat almost complete, you can then twist each branch and wash with egg wash to ensure a crisp bake.
For those feeling extra festive, you can use any leftover scraps to make stars using a cookie cutter or sharp knife.
Add your doughy decorations to your tree and then egg wash, before popping into the oven to bake for 20 mins at 200°C (180°C fan) or until it becomes golden.
To finish, simply add icing sugar as fake snow and then you are ready to serve this festive treat.
