Shoppers left shocked as they discover when their Christmas turkeys were actually frozen
AN Aldi shopper was left surprised after discovering when the supermarket had frozen their turkeys ahead of the Christmas period.
The man uploaded a video showing off the festive bird he had picked up December 25.
On his @gleno2023 account, he claimed that the label stated the turkey had been frozen on February 16 earlier this year.
The sticker appeared to show that the 1.80kg bird would be fine to eat before February 2025.
He alleged: “Aldi froze their turkeys in February this year.
“Buy fresh people.”
His video has racked up hundreds of likes, and people were surprised at the revelation.
One person wrote: “I’m off to the butchers tomz for our turkey hate the supermarket ones.”
However, some people weren’t bothered at all.
One commented: “always buy Aldi frozen turkey never had a problem.”
Another added: “That’s the point of freezing things, to preserve them. So there ready when needed.”
According to BBC: “Freezing food stops the growth of bacteria.
“In theory, food can be frozen indefinitely without going ‘off’. However, foods that are exposed to the air in the freezer can be affected by ‘freezer burn’, and fats can go rancid.
“Over time, the quality, taste and texture of all food will be affected by being frozen.
“Meat with a greater surface area, such as bacon, mince or sausages, keeps less well than large cuts of meat.”
Aldi has been contacted for comment.
