I found the best shop for food bargains – veg is only 10p and I even nabbed cheese for free
A WOMAN has revealed that she has found the best shop for food bargains.
So if you’re looking to cut back on the price of your groceries, you’ve come to the right place.
Lottie Marie, a bargain hunter mum-of-two, shared a glimpse inside her local The Company Shop, in Dudley, just one of the 14 discount superstores spread across the UK, revealing what’s currently on the shelves.
The Company Shop sells surplus food and household items from major retailers to those who meet a strict criteria.
The shop obtains items from large supermarkets that are misshapen, close to their sell-by date, or have damaged or are in incorrect packaging.
The Company Shop sells items from companies like ASDA, Morrisons, The Co-operative, M&S, Tesco, Nestlé, Ocado, Tetley, Young’s and Muller.
Products from these shops are sold to members at 40 per cent of their recommended retail price.
But there’s a catch – you have to meet a specific criteria to be eligible for membership to The Company Shop.
To become a member, you must:
- Be over 18 years of age
- Work in the emergency services – such as the fire brigade, police and NHS, or
- Be a current or retired employee of one of their partners (company who supplies The Company Shop with products)
In addition to meeting the criteria to become a member, once you have a membership, you are only allowed to bring one non-member into the shop with you at a time.
In Lottie’s clip, which was shared on social media, the savvy shopper explained: “Tonight’s bargains at the Company Shop for under £20.
“See their website to see if you can apply for a free membership and where your local company shop is.”
As she took her followers around the discounted retailer, she said: “Cabbage is 30p, if you’ve never tried this Polish mayo, you need to try it. You’ll never go back. We’ve just run out so I’ve got six jars.
“Greens are 10p and the Wensleydale cranberry cheese is free, I think it’s because it goes off in two days, but it’s free so I’ll have one of those.
“Sandwiches and the wraps are 50p each.
“Greek style yoghurt is 65p and they’ve also got six of the Muller corner yoghurts for £1.25.
“They’ve got cheddar sticks for the kids’ lunch boxes – 85p.
“Brie is 50p. Assorted cheeses are £1.
“There’s a lot of cheese and some really good prices.”
Not only is there plenty of cheese, but there’s meat, crisps and alcohol too.
Lottie continued: “They’ve got barbecue brisket or pastrami for £1.10 a pack, and some nice ham for £1.15.
“Cherry tomatoes are 6p, apple slices are only 25p – perfect for the lunchboxes.
“Five packs of flame-grilled steak crisps are 85p – perfect again for back to school.
“Chocolate sauce, it’s Nestle as well, is 50p.
“They’ve got the offer back on any eight for £5 on any selected beer, lager and cider. Quite a good deal.
“If you weren’t aware, all of the bread at The Company shop is 40p only. They have buns, crumpets, bagels, all different kinds of bread. It’s a decent price.”
