‘Spoiling it!’ rage Too Good To Be True viewers as they call out ‘off-putting & unrealistic’ blunders in drama’s launch
CHANNEL 5 viewers have tore into the network’s latest drama show after slamming it as ‘off-putting and unrealistic’.
Former EastEnders star Kara Tointon headed up the cast of the programme in which she played a struggling single mother called Rachel.
The show follows her as she lands a seemingly amazing job as a cleaner for wealthy businessman Elliot.
Although Rachel did not initially meet Elliot she enjoyed a snoop around his house and was impressed by the lavish property and its luxurious items.
Elliot opts to keep her employed despite no evidence of cleaning and he soon begins to lavish her and her son with over-the-top gifts in an odd move which she did not appear to question.
Within moments, fans were rather unhappy with the “slow start” as they called out the drama’s launch for being “unpredictable”.
It left them rushing to X – formerly Twitter – to have their say with one fan posting: “This seems a bit predictable… struggling single mom with no help, random good looking, wealthy mystery man with the seeming answer to her prayers… #toogoodtobetrue.”
Another then added: “Watching #toogoodtobetrue and it is ridiculous. A lady is given a new job with big wages and she repays them by snooping around and having a fashion show with their clothes.”
A third commented: “This is a typically slow start.”
Before a fourth echoed: “#TooGoodToBeTrue slow start.”
While someone seethed at a series of show ‘blunders’, saying: “#TooGoodToBeTrue why is this all filmed in colours teal and green? It’s terrible.
“Teal or green clothes, walls, doors, tables, fences, cars. Men don’t wear green suits. Even jeans have been made greenish. So off-putting. Totally unrealistic. Completely spoils the ‘drama.”
Despite it not appearing to hit the mark with viewers on the very first episode, the drama appears to be jam-packed full of secrets yet to be uncovered.
The concluding part of the first episode revealed that Elliot was actually spying on Rachel and her son through a hidden camera in their home.
Speaking about taking on the role, leading lady Kara told Channel 5: “What I found interesting reading the scripts is that Rachel is struggling to make ends meet so then to have this moment seemingly of luck come along how does she navigate that?
“Having built up this wall of strength around her and Liam can she allow herself to go along for this ride?”
The actress added: “I liked the grit in her, the never-say-die attitude.”
“She hasn’t had it easy, but she is a trier and she’s doing her best with the lot she’s been given. She’s got a beautiful son in Liam and life is tough.”
She co-stars with John Thomson and Allan Leech in the role.
