‘That must be old stock because what in the 2010’ shoppers say & admit feeling ‘afraid’ as 2000s trend makes a comeback
SHOPPERS are going wild (but not in a good way) as a popular 2000s trend appears to be making a comeback.
So if you threw away your skinny jeans and thought that mom jeans were here to stay, you might want to cover your eyes.
While some of us may still proudly rock our skinnies – high-rise, ankle length mom jeans increased in popularity since the 2010s and into the 2020s.
One fashion fan was left totally stunned when shopping in her local New Look, when she noticed that skinny jeans had come back into fashion.
Shocked at the sighting of the slim denims, posting on social media, the fashionista penned: “If you ever miss the 2008 era, just pop into New Look.”
In the short video, we saw the chain’s large offering of skinny jeans – with light washed pairs, bright blue denims and even pink pairs of jeggings too.
But fashion fans have been left totally divided over the re-emergence of skinny jeans.
In the early 2000s, skinny jeans were everywhere, paired with other trends of the era like ballet flats, which are also on sale in New Look, and peplum tops.
Skinny jeans were sold by both designer brands and fast fashion stores, but by the end of the decade they were falling out of popularity.
Now, it’s not just the runways that are full of roomy, baggy trousers, as many fashionistas, particularly those in the Gen Z generation (born between 1997-2012) have taken to proudly throwing theirs away in favour of more baggier, roomier denim.
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @coffeehater7, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 54,900 views in just 22 hours.
But many fashion fans were gutted at the sighting of the skinny jeans.
One person said: “Have we not suffered enough?”
Another added: “But why?”
A third commented: “I didn’t read the caption and genuinely thought this was 2008 footage.”
Whilst someone else chimed in: “This has to be old stock because ain’t no way, WHAT IN THE 2010.”
And it’s not just New Look where the denims have been spotted.
One fashionista, who posts on TikTok under the username @tamaruka_, took to the video sharing platform to document her spotting of skinny jeans.
I’m so afraid

In a clip that has quickly gone viral and has since racked up 1.2 million views in just one day, we saw the fashion fan share screenshots of new-in denim.
Spotted on Bershka and Stradivarius, the woman wrote: “It has officially started…”
As the retailers paired the skinny jeans with ballet flats, which are also coming back on trend, the woman then admitted: “I’m so afraid.”
Not only are skinny jeans back on the shelves, but it appears that ballet bumps – which first appeared back in 1957 and were popular in the 2000s – are back too.
However, as previously reported by Fabulous, notorious for its wafer-thin sole and a lack of support, it’s no surprise that podiatrists aren’t a fan.
Emma McConnachie, of the Royal College of Podiatry, said: “They tend to have very thin, flat soles and have no support or method of staying on the foot. They also often have soles that do not cover the width of the foot.
“As they have nothing across the top of the foot, the tendency is to claw your toes to keep them on your feet.”
Not only this, but the shoes once adored by Kate Moss and Amy Winehouse can cause long-term damage, as Emma continued: “In the short-term this can cause blisters and corns and long-term can cause your toes to claw and change shape.”
