Gladiators in fix row as former star points out ‘contestants can’t win’ iconic game
GLADIATORS may be involved in a new ‘fix’ row as one former star has hit out at the reboot.
The BBC has brought back the iconic Saturday night physical game to be hosted by Bradley Walsh and his son Barney.
However, one former star has hit out at the new version of the iconic challenges as he claimed they might be rigged.
Michel Wilson, who previously appeared as Cobra in the ITV version of Gladiators, thinks that contestants with certain builds do not stand a chance of winning.
He implied that some of the challenges may have been watered down from the original show, such as The Duel.
Speaking to the Daily Star he wrote: “They need to change The Duel – it is too friendly.
“The platforms are too close, a smaller guy can duck and dive and out of the way of them pugil sticks usually. But the heads of the pugil sticks are too big.”
The star also admitted that he thinks that smaller contenders don’t even stand a chance in the famous challenge
“I can’t see anyone at the moment like a smaller guy being able to win against their big legs, knocking them off.
“They need to be able to duck and dive and make the other guys lose their balance. You need to spread them apart.”
He added: “Also, there’s another game called Danger Zone where we use huge grey balls against a consistent running across a bridge, what we’ve got now is rubbish and not as effective.
“They won’t cost a lot of money to use the balls so they need to bring that back. I think it probably needs another series to perfect everything.”
However, some may say that the show is tough enough already for the contestants as they still face potential painful injuries.
Back in January, one contestant named Finley was left fighting back tears after he took on the Gauntlet.
The challenge required the fitness and strength enthusiasts to get to the end of a giant runway in just 30 seconds.
However, the platform is separated into four zones which each protected by a fierce Gladiator.
Finley appeared confident as he took on Viper, Phantom, Steel and Apollo.
But things took a nasty turn during the intense game when Finley injured his knee and was left in utter agony.
The game was suddenly called to a halt after he covered his face and was seen limping.
