You don’t need to be Gollum to practice safe sun but buy SPF from another country – they’re a delight & better-priced
AN anti-aging enthusiast has given the 411 on sunscreen, saying local buys may not be what they’re cracked up to be.
She recommended purchasing sunblock from a foreign country, which is often a cheaper option.
Charlotte Palermino (@charlotteparler) listed out her reasons in a video posted to TikTok.
“The added benefit of buying a sunscreen, especially a Korean sunscreen, is multiple fold,” she said.
“Number one, it has newer and more innovative filters which are not available in the United States. The FDA has not approved a new sunscreen filter in 20 years.
“The second benefit of Korean sunscreens, especially sunscreens like Beauty of Joseon, is that they are a delight to apply. They are easy to apply, which is incredibly important for sunscreen,” she added.
Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen is a skincare fan favorite, retailing for $18 on their website.
“I want a sunscreen protection of SPF 50 and broad spectrum protection,” she said.
“Broad spectrum protection is UVA protection and UVA protection is incredibly important because those are the rays that not only can cause cancer, but they also cause aging.
“And the third benefit is price. I will say that a lot of sunscreens are overpriced, right? Fifty milliliters is $25.
“You have to use a ton of it in order for it to work,” she added.
She said that shopping for sunscreens with similar quality as Korean ones can cost her way more than the United States, making her stance on buying from abroad “threefold.”
“[Korean sunscreens] offer better protection than some of the sunscreens in the United States,” she said.
“They’re more elegant to apply and also price. They tend to be better priced in the case for all sunscreens,” she added.
Charlotte also assured that she isn’t telling people to avoid the sun completely.
“I am not telling you to become Gollum. What I am telling you, though, is to practice safe sun,” she said.
