I work in a nursery – parents who give their kids rice for lunch are a nightmare & don’t get me started on puddle suits
A NURSERY worker has revealed some of her biggest pet peeves – including when parents give their kids rice for lunch.
Kat is a 23-year-old childcare practitioner, and regularly shares stories from her work life on her social media pages.
In a recent video on TikTok, she explained the “things I’ve learned to hate”, kicking off with: “Jelly shoes in the summer that are so hard to put on the children’s feet and always give them blisters”.
The reason she hates rice for lunch is that it’s “so hard to sweep up off the floor”.
And she also can’t stand when the “nappy bin is full and absolutely stinks”.
“The rice is so accurate,” one person commented on the video.
As another suggested: “Top tip! Put sand over the rice, easier to sweep and less sticky!
“Then mop.
“Saved me so much time!”
“Sand or flour sprinkled over rice and cous cous – game changer,” a third wrote.
“We found jelly shoes would make the children fall over all the time – especially the open toe ones,” someone else commented.
“Get a tube of liquid talc to keep in the room, put it on the kids feet that have jelly shoes on stops the chafing,” another wrote.
As someone else said: “Yeah well as a practitioner it’s your job to empty that bin.
“It won’t get emptied itself!”
Kat then shared another video as she listed even more things she hates.
“Children coming in wearing dungarees so it’s hard to change nappies,” she raged.
And elsewhere on the fashion front, she also can’t stand when kids come in wearing “high top shoes, that are so hard to get on their feet”.
Another pet peeve is children who arrive in “all in one coats”, as they take “10 years to put on to go to the garden”.
She can’t stand the amount of “unnamed hats, scarves and gloves” there are, as they “always get lost”.
And it’s never a good idea to bring in toys from home, as they just “cause arguments between children”.
“Agree with most except the all in ones,” someone commented on the video.
“There’s a reason they’re worn and it saves changing every child’s clothes after garden time!”
“Agree to them all bar the all in one,” another agreed.
“I would rather put them on then change all the children’s clothes once they come in from the garden messy.”
While a third wrote: “We’ve been told to send them with an all in one as it’s more suitable for playing outdoors than a coat.”
“Our nursery specifically ask for all in ones!” someone else said.
“And once you’ve put that coat on, they always need a wee,” another laughed.
To which Kat replied: “Most annoying thing!”
