“Let’s give my boring millennial grey bathroom a celestial makeover,” said Sam Franco (@bara_hari).
She showed off the drab space that was ready for her DIY touches.
First up, she pulled up the previous stick on tile that uncovered beige-colored flooring with black marbled details.
“I had almost forgotten how ugly the floor that was underneath was,” she said.
Sam was ready to get her stylish transformation started – and all while saving money.
“I’m doing this on the most shoestring of shoestring budgets.”
Her inspiration came from images of 1920s black and white themed bathrooms.
First, she made sure to thoroughly clean the floors by removing all the adhesives from the old tiles.
Her makeover mission also included using a whole bottle of Goo Gone as well as another bottle of 90% alcohol.
It was going to take three boxes of black and white Floor Pops peel-and-stick vinyl floor tiles to get the inspired look she desired.
Sam also warned that the project might just take some extra elbow great to become renter-friendly.
Her Floor Pop peel-and-stick tiles can be found on Amazon for $13.97 a box and are described as being water-resistant and washable while offering easy application.
The home improvement product had plenty of five-star reviews.
“These tiles did the trick – easy install and transformed my bathroom floor from old, stained linoleum to a fresh new look!” wrote on buyer.
“Nice quality, easy to install, cute design!” said another purchaser.
Her only complaint was that some of the patterns weren’t lining up perfectly.
Still, she wasn’t complaining due to her budget constraints and the fact that she didn’t have much measuring to do.
“Luckily the linoleum tiles that were already on the floor were the exact same size as the ones I was replacing them with,” she said.
After realizing that some of the tiles weren’t sticking, she went in with sandpaper to grit up the floor.
Next up came the cutting process that involved using a cutting mat, rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, and X-acto.
She made sure to work extra carefully around the toilet area.
The common-looking bathroom countertop that had a marbled yellow look was the next to go.
She wound up using floor tiles that were ultra-thin for the backsplash area.
Sam was a fan of the black-and-white star-patterned look- but not of her striped shower curtain that was giving too much of a sailor vibe.
She decided to go with a white shower curtain paired with black shower hooks from Home Goods.
“I thought it looked way classier. Super in love with the plain white,” she said.
She was also loving that the curtain had some texture to it.
She might have been unable to paint the already peeling walls but she worked around the issue by adding new elements to the space and upgrading her plain towels with a patterned design.
Her fans were floored by the new flooring.
“You’ve made me more encouraged to change my bathroom thank you!” said one follower.
“That bathroom aesthetic is my literal dream,” said another viewer.
She also added a piece of furniture with plants, as well as candles and other decorative pieces including floral prints on the walls.
She was already envisioning adding a new fixture and light switches but she was pleased with her posh new space – and especially the price.
“I’m pretty happy with it. I spent maybe $100,” she said.
