I’m an interiors expert – here’s the 8 essential spring updates you should make right now to refresh your home
WITH the days finally longer and the world bursting back into colour, it’s time to breathe some new life into our homes.
And while a spring clean should be on the to-do list, it’s not the only effort you can be making to refresh your space.
Interiors expert Faye Leeming, Brand Manager at Where Saints Go, has shared her eight essential spring interior updates you should make right now to invigorate your home.
Some won’t even cost you a penny…
Incorporate Nature
Faye said: “Spring is all about life and growth, so get the colours of nature – greenery and flowers into your home.
“Indoor plants not only add a splash of colour but also improve air quality.
“Consider easy-to-care-for plants like succulents, snake plants, or fresh cut flowers to keep the vibe lively and fresh.”
Brighten-Up
“Swap out those dark, wintry tones for lighter, brighter hues”, Faye suggests.
“Think pastels, which are a springtime favourite, or bold colours that make a statement.
“It doesn’t have top be a full makeover job. This can be achieved through accent pieces like cushions, throws, and artwork.”
Lighten Up
Faye advises: “Put your mega-tog duvet away. Swap out thick blankets for lightweight throws, sheets and change your bedding to lighter materials like linen or cotton.”
She suggests waffle cotton for a “wonderfully breathable” spring choice and added: “A simple switch like this can change the feel of a room, making it seem fresher and airier.”
Rethink Your Window Treatments
Faye said: “This depends on how much of a morning person you are.
“With the clocks going forward, you might want to add a blackout layer to your window coverings, or let the light shine in by opting for sheer or lighter curtains.
“Increased exposure to daylight has been shown to have positive effects on mood and productivity. And it can instantly make your home feel more inviting and vibrant.”
The goal is to reflect the essence of spring in your home

Update Your Accessories
Faye said: “Accessories are the easiest way to update your home for any season.
“In spring, consider incorporating floral patterns, botanical prints, or even bird motifs.
“These elements can be introduced in small doses, like vases, tableware, or even a statement wall.”
Create an Outdoor Retreat
Faye said: “As the weather warms up, outdoor spaces become an extension of our living area.
“Refresh your patio, deck, or balcony to make it a cosy retreat. Even small spaces can benefit from a couple of outdoor chairs and a table, or a hammock for relaxing.”
Rearrange Your Layout
“Sometimes, all a room needs is a fresh perspective”, Faye revealed.
“Consider rearranging your furniture to better suit your spring lifestyle. Perhaps create a layout that focuses more on the windows to take advantage of the spring views and sunlight.”
Deep Clean and Declutter
Faye said: “Last but certainly not least, spring cleaning is a tradition for a reason.
“A thorough clean and decluttering session can transform your space more than any decorative update.
“Get rid of anything that no longer serves you or your aesthetic, and give every corner of your home a good scrub.
“A clean and clutter-free space is the perfect canvas for all your spring updates.”
These updates are designed to rejuvenate your home and make it a more pleasant and lively space for the season ahead.
Faye added: “Remember, the goal is to reflect the essence of spring in your home—think light, airy, and full of life.”
