‘No grey, no Love Island vibe’ people praise woman’s epic garden transformation from boring newbuild to outdoor paradise
WHEN you think of a new build garden, some people may automatically conjure up images of fake grass and grey paving slabs.
But one savvy homeowner has revealed exactly how she achieved her “cottage garden of dreams” – and it’s little wonder her “stunning” outdoor transformation has been flooded with praise online.
In a clip posted to TikTok (@new.house.home), Charlotte, who bought the Hertfordshire new-build in summer 2020 and has since been on a mission to “transform it,” shared the very impressive before and after photos.
“How we turned our new build garden from this to this,” she begins.
The gardening whizz then explains how she and her partner Ben actually got turf included withing the price of their house.
However, she points out that they ended up digging quite a lot of it up.
“We got a shed base fitted and we put up a shed,” she continues.
“We realised we got evening sun at the end of the garden, so we decided to put up a seating area there first using Cotswold stone.
“We then put a pond next to it because we love the sound of water.”
Next, the couple decided they wanted to put in a path which would lead to the rest of the garden, which Charlotte says they achieved using gravel boards from Wickes followed by a membrane.
“We put down some Hardcore and Hoggin gravel which we compacted down,” she says.
“We then got the patio extended and Ben built these lovely raised beds along the edge of our garden.
“He then also laid a reclaimed brick patio and built another raised bed here.”
Deciding they wanted to add some height at the end of the garden, she says they put up a pergola and finally built their own greenhouse.
Charlotte captioned the post: “Creating our cottage garden of dreams, in a 12×7 metre new build garden.”
Sharing a breakdown of the costs, she explains how the pergola cost approximately £600, reclaimed patio around £500, raised beds £300, Hoggin path an estimated £300 and greenhouse £600, while she says the plants she’s grown a lot from seed.
It wasn’t long before the post went viral, racking up a whopping xx views and hundreds of comments from social media users.
“YES!!! NO SLABS NO GREY NO LOVE ISLAND VIBE NO PLASTIC GRASS WELL DONE THIS IS A GARDEN!!” praised one.
