Best known for its fleet of robot vacuum cleaners, home appliances brand Proscenic has several air fryers available, including the T21 smart air fryer.
Like other air fryers, it works like a mini fan oven – there’s a heating element inside and a fan that helps to rapidly distribute the heat.
Between the high temperature and the drying effect of the fan, foods that have been lightly coated in oil will become crispy, like they’ve been fried. As the process uses a lot less oil than deep-fat frying, the results can be much healthier.
The T21 has a generous capacity of 5.5L and can reach temperatures of between 77C and 205C.
But what really sets it apart is the use of smart technology – you can link the machine to your phone via an app or through Alexa so you can control the cooking without being in the kitchen.

Proscenic T21 smart air fryer, £89
The Proscenic has eight pre-set modes – fries, shrimp, pizza, chicken, fish, steak, cake and bacon – and each comes with its designated cooking time and temperature.
You can use the buttons on the control panel to adjust both the temperature and the time up and down (up to 60 minutes).
There are also three additional cooking functions: Timing, Preheat and Keep Warm.
The Timing function is a delay timer, Preheat will power up the heating element to 188C for five minutes, and Keep Warm will automatically kick in after any preset mode and keep the food warm at 77C for five minutes.
Is it easy to use?
The T21 is straightforward and intuitive to use – you just pop your food in the fry basket, select your preferred function and then press go.
The pre-set programs are guidelines only and you can easily adjust the temperature and time yourself, even mid-use.
Once you start the machine, the display will alternate between the temperature and the time remaining.
Some recipes recommend shaking the basket halfway through, which is easy, as the machine automatically stops working when you pull out the basket and starts again when you put it back in.
I’d recommend downloading the app. Once your phone or other device is connected, you can then use the machine from another room if you want.
From your phone, you can switch the machine on, preheat it, pick the cooking function, and adjust the time and temperature. And if you’re not quite ready to eat yet, there’s also the Keep Warm function.
When it comes to cleaning, the non-stick coating makes it easy to rinse away stuck-on food. But because it’s a basket, it can take a while to clean between the holes and vents when washing by hand – although it is dishwasher safe.

Does it pass the taste test?
I tried a few different recipes on the Proscenic and used it to warm things up, cook from frozen and cook from raw and it produced great results each time.
It’s not quite as fast as a microwave but it is much faster than a conventional oven. And it’s great for cooking or warming things up that would turn soggy in a microwave, like sausage rolls or pizza.
If you’re just warming things up or cooking from frozen, I found it was best to have the temperature on lower for a longer period – otherwise, it can char easily without completely cooking through.
To cook things from raw, make sure you use the preheat function first for the best results (you leave the basket empty at this stage) as it means the temperature in the air fryer will be precise from the moment you start cooking.
And don’t leave anything crispy in the air fryer after cooking, as the well-sealed environment means water vapours get trapped and your food will become soggy.
As for making chips, I can attest to ‘crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside’ results – and there’s room to make plenty.
