My design tips will turn your backyard space into a little paradise – adding a ‘living wall’ makes a bold statement
AN interior designer has revealed how the nature surrounding your home can inspire backyard transformations.
She said five little-known tricks turn a drab outdoor space into a “sensory-rich little paradise.”
Many homeowners have begun to overhaul their backyards in preparation for socializing and relaxing this summer.
However, deciding how to style the space while maximizing its potential can be overwhelming.
Houna Bech founded the blog With Houna in pursuit of beauty and style.
The professional interior designer told The U.S. Sun that outdoor spaces should be an “organic” extension of the inside home design.
EMBRACE NATURE
Bech said most backyards are surrounded by nature’s “beauty” and this should be incorporated in design choices.
“Use your landscaping, trees, flowers, and organic environment as your muse,” she said.
“Are there soft sage greens and muted terracotta tones you can incorporate through tiled accent walls or plush cushions?
“What about sculptural shapes you can echo in planters or water features?
“Let the outdoors guide your color story and organic motifs.”
BRING THE INSIDE OUT
She said taking inspiration from the themes inside the home when designing a backyard can make properties look cohesive.
“Repeat color palettes, textures, and materials so the transition between indoors and out is seamless,” she said.
“This elevates the entire experience into a gorgeously holistic living space.
“For example, I might carry the warmth of natural oak woods from my interior flooring out to the deck, tying it all together.”
CREATE ZONES
The interior designer recommended having zones dedicated to specific purposes in your backyard.
She revealed her love for beauty and self-care makes her want to add a personal touch to her outdoor space.
A lavish living wall or sculptural topiaries make a bold statement.

“I might design a luxurious cabana with plush loungers and vanities for alfresco makeup sessions with my girlfriends,” she said.
“Add a refreshing outdoor shower and lush greenery all around for the ultimate zen glam zone.”
PRIORITIZE COMFORT
Bech said emphasizing comfort “above all else” is what truly makes an outdoor lounge area great.
She advised considering features that can be added to make the space relaxing to lounge year-round.
“I’m talking cloud-like sectionals, upholstered daybeds, and oversized weather-resistant poufs you can really envelop yourself in,” she said.
“Shade solutions like drapery or motorized awnings provide sheltered spaces to kick back.
“And luxe amenities like misting systems and heat lamps extend the space’s appeal across seasons.”
Budget interior design tips
Interior designer Judy Hoang shared her furniture tips with The U.S. Sun.
- Thrift furniture and paint it to match your decor.
- Test if an item is fit for its purpose before thrifting.
- Shop at Target or HomeGoods for rugs, lamps, desks, and pillows.
- Invest in classic timeless pieces.
- Set up smart home lighting to save money.
GET CREATIVE
“Finally, turn your entire outdoor area into an artistic installation,” Bech said.
“As designers, we have the chance to seamlessly blend home and gallery using a landscape’s living elements.
“I might design a lavish living wall or sculptural topiaries that make a bold statement.
“Or commission awe-inspiring water walls and intricate tiled artwork underfoot.
“When the lines between home and art blur, you create spaces that stimulate the senses in an utterly profound way.”
