‘Don’t bin it’ warning issued to MILLIONS of Brits in Spring – how rubbish can clean your BBQ in seconds
BRITS have been warned not to throw away a certain item ahead of BBQ season this spring.
As the mercury begins to rise many of us across the nation will be looking forward to firing up our barbecues and cracking open a cold one.
But, it can be a nightmare task to clean them after collecting dirt and grime across the winter.
Experts at Stoves are Us have shared their top tips on how to leave your garden cooking appliance gleaming.
How to deep clean a barbecue
The BBQ whizzes say you should start by removing the grates and drip tray to soak them in hot water and washing up liquid for up to 30 minutes.
During this soaking period, take a grill brush or scraper to the inside of the barbecue to remove food.
This can be done using warm soapy water and a damp cloth.
When the grease and grime has loosened off the grates and drip trays, use a nylon scrubber to leave them sparkling.
The Stoves are Us experts also suggest using an old toothbrush to get into hard to reach areas – so don’t throw your next one away.
A handy tip to tackle stubborn stains is soaking the grates and drip tray in coffee for an hour because of the acidity.
The final step is cleaning all the parts again with warm, clean water and drying thoroughly.
To help protect your barbecue in the future, the experts highly suggest investing in a heavy-duty cover.
This comes as another cleaning whizz revealed how vegetable oil is great for stopping your BBQ from getting rusty after repeated uses.
Washing up liquid should still be used after cooking, but then rinse and dry before rubbing oil across the grill.
And, beer can also make an excellent barbecue cleaner as it cuts through the grease.
Simply pour half a bottle of beer over a heated BBQ then rub with newspaper to wipe off grime.
Baking soda and water is another effective method for leaving your cooking gadget sparkling.
Make a paste with the powder and water, then cover the grill in it with a wire brush and let it dry for 15 minutes.
Finally, wipe off with a dry cloth and place the grill over the hot coals for 15 minutes to burn off any remains before cooking the food.
