I have identical twins – we had a system to tell them apart but my husband messed it up, now we have no clue who’s who
IT’S something people joke about a lot when it comes to identical twins, but for one mum getting her newborn girls mixed up became a reality.
Bree revealed the unfortune mishap in a viral TikTok video, leaving people completely stunned.
Bree explained that she left the name tags on the newborns when she left the hospital with her partner because she didn’t want to get them mixed up.
This savvy plan worked for the first two weeks, that is until she popped out of the house and father to the twins decided to cut off the wristbands.
To make matters even more confusing, the dad also made another huge error, confusing the mum even more.
Besides the name tags, in a bid to tell them apart each baby had their own bassinette and would sleep in the same one each night.
But when the dad was on night time duty he put both of the newborns into the same crib, without their name tags.
He blamed it on tiredness, but when Bree came to take over in the morning she couldn’t work out who was who.
Even their baby pictures with the name tags didn’t help much in solving the mystery, Bree explained in the social media clip.
“It was a whole mess so we literally just had to pick,” she confessed.
And even though she tried her best to get it right the new mum admitted she’s still not sure.
“It messes my brain up all the time but I kind of just go with it because now that’s your name, if it’s the wrong one from birth to now, that’s your new name,” Bree added.
The confessional video quickly went viral and has over 1.5 million likes so far, many viewers shared some ideas on how the mum could tell them apart going forward.
“You should paint their toe nails different colours or something,” one commented.
“Surely you can look at their finger prints or something? I would need to know,” a second said.
Meanwhile, others confessed the had similar issues, “I couldn’t tell my twins apart at first but now they look so different,” wrote one.
“My mom did this to us, and our names are only one letter apart,” another said.
“I was so tired after my twins that I cried that I mixed them up, but my sensible well slept hubby reminded me they were boy/girl,” someone else confessed.
Other parents were furious that the dad cut the name tags off the babies in the first place.
“Honestly cutting the bands would’ve sent me into orbit because you did what,” wrote one.
“I’d never be able to let this go. I’d have to figure it out somehow, back to the hospital we go,” another mum joked.
