Rare Ford described by Jeremy Clarkson as ‘devastatingly handsome’ on Top Gear episode available for bargain price
A RARE Ford motor that was described by Jeremy Clarkson as being “devastatingly handsome” on Top Gear could now be yours for a bargain price.
When reviewing the Ford Puma in 1997 for the BBC’s popular motoring show the TV presenter said the car needed to be “approached with extreme caution”.
While Clarkson had reservations about the height of the wheel arches and the look of the boot, he called the car “devastatingly handsome”.
Now a 2001 version with a 1.7-litre engine is up for grabs with an asking price of £3,500.
The ad on Car and Classic describes the model as being “absolutely molycoddled”.
According to the seller, it comes with a load of new parts, including a recent cam belt and clutch.
The seller also says they forked out £2,000 to get the bodywork restored in 2019 which included repairs to the inner and outer rear arches, new sills and the front wings were replaced.
They also claim the car has been constantly rust proofed “to make sure the body stays sound”.
Inside there are blue Recaro leather seats and matching door cards.
It has also undergone “many upgrades” including a 4-2-1 exhaust, Racing Puma intake modification and Fiesta ST150 big brakes.
While the ad doesn’t indicate when it was posted online it says the car was serviced three weeks ago along with repairs to the heater valve and CV gaiter.
The rear boot lock motor was also recently replaced.
The current MOT runs out in April 2025.
While the car has got an upgraded audio and phone kit, the original radio will be supplied as well as two boxes of spares.
The owner describes the AC as working well and says it’s a “great summer fun car” to drive.
The self-confessed enthusiast has had the car sine 2018 and has “spent hundreds of hours making it as good as it can be”
As for its service history, the owner says they have a huge file which includes “piles of receipts” for the parts they have had fitted.
They said: “It’s been serviced every year without fail and has new cam and crank seals following work to the cam belt and clutch.
“I’ve got photos of all the work I’ve done to back up the receipts.”
There is 85,480 miles on the clock.
The owner is based in Southam, Warwickshire.
