‘The slit’s too high’ people moan as wedding guest reveals ‘bridal-style’ dress she’s wearing to her pal’s big day

0

WHEN it comes to someone else’s big day, there are several unwritten rules everyone should follow – including don’t upstage the bride.

But one wedding = guest has divided opinion online after sharing the frock she’s planning on wearing to her friend’s special day, which is taking place at a “nice restaurant by the beach.”

Taking to Reddit, the woman shared a photo of the figure-hugging dress in question, which appears to be white, features several pastel-coloured flowers, and has a very revealing thigh slit.

After asking whether the dress is “appropriate,” she went on to note that the bride and groom “didn’t really specify the dress code,” only the colour palette which she says is “cream, pearl, oat, sand, cashmere.”

The wedding guest acknowledged: “Technically in my country it’s not that unacceptable to wear white to a wedding, just make sure not to upstage the bride and not wear anything black.

“I like this dress a lot and it fits me pretty well, but I’m still a little worried if it is too white for a wedding.”

She added: “My family and friends said it’s alright because it is patterned, quite casual, and goes with the theme.”

While she admitted she wasn’t sure what to do, it wasn’t long before social forum users took to the comment section to share their rather honest opinions.

And many were in agreement that one feature in particular made the dress inappropriate.

“The model appears to be hiding her underwear with her thumb. The slit is too high to be appropriate,” wrote one.

A second agreed: “Slit is a bit too high in my opinion.

“If you go with it make sure that it stays closed, personally it wouldn’t bother me if I was the bride but some people are conservative.”

A third commented: “Too light a colour and too high a thigh slit, in my opinion.”

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “The dress is white in the background so absolutely not, consider any other colour.

“Anyway seems like the white maybe isn’t an issue for you so I would ask the bride, given the high slit and bridal style of the dress

Elsewhere, others noted that only because of the colour palette mentioned, they thought the dress would be OK.

“Honesty I would’ve said no, but it seems pretty spot-on for the colour palette,” wrote one.

However, she advised: “As long as you avoid traditional bridal styling (no pearls, no elaborate updos, etc) I think it’s fine.

Top Wedding Trends of 2024

Sophie Creed, bridal designer and founder of bridal brand e&w Couture has shared this year's wedding trends.

Personal, personal, personal

Brides are leaning towards modern minimalism with lots of personal touches that show off their relationship as a couple for an overall wedding theme.

Sustainability is also a huge wedding trend, with brides opting for more locally sourced and in-season florals and food.

Sailing into the sunset

There’s a rise in bold sunset colours like pinks, corals, reds and yellows when it comes to colour schemes. Big bold bouquets and tonal bridesmaids are coming in to focus.

Fun-shoes and statement scrunchies

A fun shoe is always top of the list for brides this year, followed closely this year by a matching hair accessory to their dress such as a large statement bow or scrunchies.

Pockets are in!

Modern, flattering silhouettes with bold fabric choices are 2024’s wedding dress trend.

Brides also love a fuller skirt (with pockets), interesting back details and sophisticated plunging necklines.

Sleeves have been huge for us this season but nothing too fitted, instead opting for romantic billowing sleeves.

“A scarf or wrap that matches the pink or tan in the dress would help break up the white!”

Another agreed: “The dress has literally all of the colours they mentioned. I think that because of that, it’s okay.

“It doesn’t read as pure white – actually looks a little grey-ish or off white to me.

“If they’re ok with cream and pearl then this is totally fine. Love the colour combo in the pattern.”

And a further chimed in: “If that’s the colour palette, then it’s fine. But initially I was going to say don’t wear it. It is beautiful though!”
