I’m a savvy mum-of-two – I get all my kids’ clothes from Shein or Temu… people say they’re ‘s**t quality’ but we love it
A MUM-OF-TWO has revealed how she saves money – including buying the majority of her kids’ clothes from sites like Shein.
The Bargain Loving Mam regularly shares budgeting tips and tricks on her social media pages, and recently posted a slideshow explaining the best ways she helps keep costs down.
In the first slide on TikTok, she shared a picture of her daughter, as she wrote over the top: “99% of clothes come from Shein or Temu“.
While “anything branded comes from Vinted“.
“I’d rather buy them loads for £50 than one brand new item,” she explained.
Not everyone in the comments section was impressed though, with one writing: “Stick to Vinted, stop buying Shein and Temu, it’s a s**t quality and can be harmful.”
“We like it – so I’ll continue buying,” the mum replied.
“Shein isn’t crap quality – all my dresses are from there, get loads of compliments, just started buying my daughter too,” another said.
“We love it – does the job, they only get ruined!”
“Definitely there with you for Shein clothes and Vinted for designer clothes,” someone else said.
“Only things I buy new designer are shoes. Never tried temu for clothes though.
“May have to!”
“It’s amazing isn’t it?? I got my daughters school adidas trainers for like £2 or something,” the mum revealed.
She continued her rundown by revealing that for days such as Red Nose Day, she’ll always “buy a top bigger than her size”.
By doing so, her daughter can wear it next year, and the year after, and it’s the “same with school uniform”.
“If we have a birthday party on a weekend, I won’t plan anything else that day,” she explained of how she keeps costs down at the weekend.
“She gets to have fun and I don’t spend a penny (plus we get out of the house)!”
They also take their kids out of school for holidays.
And while she hasn’t been fined as yet, even with a fine it’s still cheaper than going on holiday outside of term time.
When it comes to their meals, she buys a lot from the “budget value food ranges at supermarkets”, insisting “you can’t tell the difference”.
What is Shein and is it legit?
Shein is an online-only fast-fashion retailer, based out of China, that has become a number one shopping destination for many around the world.
The company was valued at $66billion in 2023, dwarfing that of popular high street brands Zara and H&M.
The fashion retailer was founded in late 2008, by entrepreneur and marketing specialist Xu Yangtian, also known as Chris Xu.
Shein is a legitimate selling website and is not a phishing scam.
But you may receive a disappointing order or run into shipping issues if you order from the site, according to reviews.
There have been swathes of quality complaints, which makes sense when looking at the price tag.
She concluded the rundown by revealing that a “lot of our toys come from charity shops/tip shops”.
“The kids literally don’t care – they’re happy to have a ‘new’ toy!” she said.
Over the top of the picture, she wrote: “Don’t be embarrassed for what you can/can’t afford.
“Live a life that suits you and makes you happy.”
“You’re doing a fabulous job! Well done you!” one person commented on the TikTok.
“I have twins and had to leave full time work to be a stay at home parent due to cost of childcare,” another wrote.
“Vinted and charity shops are a SAVIOUR and the kids don’t know either way.”
“My little boy goes to my mams once a week while I work and they go to the charity shops with his pocket money and he absolutely loves it,” a third commented.
“Gets so much with his pennies!”
