Quality Inspector II

PURPOSE

This second-level inspector works under minimal supervision, inspecting work for defects in all phases of the process.  Checks first and last parts produced and subsequent spot checks.  Responsible for inspecting quality of work produced on machines or assembly process.   Uses some judgement and discretion in determining the workability of various parts inspected.  May be a recognized expert in the area assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Performs first article inspections per AS9102 and documents in Net-Inspect software.
• Writes and reviews First Article Inspection (FAI) reports in accordance with AS9102.
• Reads and interprets blue prints and mechanical drawings.
• Completes in-process inspections daily and communicate appropriately the status of defect characteristics with machine operators and supervisors.
• Completes inspection audit of finished parts to send to special processing.
• Reads, interprets, and documents on job work order router. Records results.
• Enters results into Global Shop, including rejections and returns as necessary. Dispositions product with Quality Manager approval.
• Ensures identification and traceability of product from receipt of materials through shipment to customer.
• Calibrates inspection gages and tooling and enter into calibration software.
• Conducts on the job training to less experienced employees in department or work area.
• Performs other duties, tasks, or special projects as assigned by Quality Manager.
• Practices safe work habits, strives to eliminate safety hazards.
• Responsible for ensuring the quality of his or her work and products, while following procedures at all times, taking pride in his or her work, and producing workmanship of the highest standards.
• Coordinates and performs dimensional layouts using Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), height gages, calipers, micrometers, comparator, and various other inspection equipment.
• Advises others in GD&T, MBD (Model Based Definition) and DPD (Digital Product Definition).

ORGANIZATION

• Reports directly to the Quality Manager.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Requires High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
• Requires 3-5 years of manufacturing experience.
• Must have working knowledge of company work procedures and practices, including MBD/DPD.
• Must have strong knowledge and use of precision testing equipment and tools.
• Must have strong knowledge of calibration techniques and calibration software.
• Reads and interprets blue prints and mechanical drawings.
• Must have strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Must have good hand-eye coordination.
• Must have ability to count to report defect quantities.
• Must have demonstrated ability to pay attention to details.
• Must be able to operate computer equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Manufacturing environment with moderate noise level and concrete floors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and some amount of dust from the manufacturing process.   Some chemicals may be present in the workstation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to move around the manufacturing facilities and offices.
• Must be able to handwrite or type the record of results of inspections.
• Must be able to operate mechanical and electronic measuring devices.
• Visual acuity necessary to perform quality inspections.
• Ability to pay close attention to detail.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to occasionally manipulate product weighing ten pounds; must be able to occasionally lift up to thirty pounds.
• Must be able to wear safety glasses when required.
• Bending, twisting, kneeling, turning, pushing, and pulling are required.
• Presence at the worksite during assigned shift is essential.
