CNC Machine Operator – Lead
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced and motivated CNC Machine Operator Lead to join our Manufacturing team. In this role, you will oversee CNC machine operations, guide a team of machine operators, ensure quality standards are met, and drive continuous improvements in productivity and efficiency. This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and fast problem solving skills. This position reports to the Shop Manager.
LOCATION: Macon, GA
EMPLOYEMENT TYPE: Full Time
SHIFT: Night Shift (4:00PM – 2:30AM)
OBJECTIVES
- Ensure quality and on-time delivery
- Lead and mentor other CNC operators, providing training on safety and operational best practices
- Operate complex machinery safely, accurately, and efficiently
- Run production of tight-tolerance aluminum, steel, or titanium parts
- Utilize metrology equipment to fully check machined parts to the engineering drawings
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ensure operators start jobs on time, check parts per the Job Book, and are meeting their production numbers
- Verify functionality of safety features prior to machine operation
- Comprehensive knowledge of tool types, feeds, speeds, and machining codes.
- Set up machines and perform minor calibrations as needed
- Monitor and troubleshoot machining issues, ensuring high precision and quality control
- Proofread and modify CNC programs as necessary, ensuring a scrap rate of less than 1% due to operator error.
- Implement process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to enhance operational efficiency.
- Perform inspections of machinery to ensure efficient operation and production
- Maintain high quality of machine-produced outputs
- Learn or know aerospace AS9100 quality standards
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Proficient in blueprint reading and math skills
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Organize and maintain Job Books, ensuring accuracy in documentation.
- Schedule operations for optimal efficiency and minimal downtime.
- Operate multiple CNC machines simultaneously while maintaining production standards.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience.
- Previous experience in a leadership role
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Climate controlled manufacturing facility with moderate noise level and concrete floors.
- Exposure to physical hazards from equipment and machine parts, fumes, dust, mist, oils, and cutting fluid.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to move around the manufacturing facilities and offices
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to occasionally lift thirty or more pounds
- Must be able to wear safety glasses
