They’re Young Sheldon–ing Bosch
America simply cannot get enough of that Bosch! Prime Video’s longest-running series ended in 2021, and since then, there have been two spinoffs. Bosch: Legacy continued the adventures of Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch (yes, that’s really his name) as he left the LAPD and became a private investigator. Ballard saw Bosch’s frenemy Renée Ballard take over L.A.’s cold-case unit. And now, we’re getting a prequel about Harry’s first days on the force. Bosch: Start of Watch will star Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham) as the Bosch Baby, with Omari Hardwick (Power) as his training officer Eli Bridges. But who will play the younger version of future LAPD chief Irvin Irving? (Again, yes, that’s really a character’s name in this universe.)
This show will be quite the departure for the Bosch-iverse, as Michael Connelly hasn’t written much about Bosch’s days as a rookie cop. The standard formula for all the Bosch shows has been to adapt one to two books per season. Per Deadline, the show will be set in 1991, a totally chill time to be a cop in Los Angeles. A 26-year-old Bosch “finds himself drawn into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge.” Spoiler alert: He stays loyal to the badge for another 30 years. Unlike all its sister series on Prime Video, Bosch: Start of Watch will stream on MGM+. But if you need more Bosch content before then, fear not. Ballard was just renewed for a second season, and there’s always The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. Bosch and the Lincoln Lawyer are half-brothers, BTW. Did you know that? Impress a dad with that factoid at your next barbecue.
