2025 Hurley Junior Surf Classic Closes Out an Epic Weekend at Vic Bay
Victoria Bay, Western Cape, South Africa , July 28, 2025. The surf was on fire as the 2025 Hurley Junior Surf Classic concluded at the iconic Victoria Bay. With near-perfect conditions and a field stacked with young talents in U12, U14, U16 and U18 divisions for both boys and girls, the event delivered standout performances and memorable surf action.
Victoria Bay played host to the 7th stop of the 2025 SAST Tour. It was great to welcome Hurley back to the junior surf contest calendar with the Hurley Junior Surf Classic event. Conditions ranged from head-high peelers to powerful overhead sets, giving competitors multiple scoring opportunities.
New additions to the event were an athlete warm up zone that offered a warmup bike and some elastic bands for stretching and prep, as well as a limited edition Hurley competition memorabilia tee for each of the competitors.
Standout Performances
• Summer Harding – champion of the U12 Girls division and a finalist in U14.
• Emily Jenkinson takes the U16 and U18 Girls titles.
• Emily Jenkinson also bags her highest wave score of her junior career with a 9.83 in the U16 Girls Final.
• Leo MacLeod – runner-up in U12 Boys and made the U14 semis
• The U12 boys as well as u14 girls for their bravery in well overhead surf on Saturday.
Despite the fresh mornings and occasional wind-chill, the energy among competitors and spectators remained unwavering. Parents, coaches, and Surfing South Africa staff galvanised the side-line support, creating a vibrant contest vibe. The celebration wrapped up with the Hurley prize-giving under sunny spells, high spirits, and a few well used coffee thermoses.
