Akhmedov and Sabirov have opponents named, Kazankapov to make pro debut!
We've known for a while that unbeaten Kazakh pair Sadriddin Akhmedov (8-0, 7) [Ахмедов Садриддин] and Nurzat Sabirov (9-0, 8) [Нурзат Сабиров] would be in action in Canada on June 29th in Canada. Until today we didn't actually know who they would be up against in their bouts.
Today we were informed that not only did both men now have their opponents set but that the card would also feature one other Kazakh fighter, who is set to make his professional debut.
Sabirov's opponent was named as Hungarian Laszlo Toth (27-5-1, 19), a really tough and under-rated Hungarian who has never been stopped and has given good tests to rising fighters like Eduard Skavynskyi, Kudratillo Abdukakhorov and Kerman Lejarraga. The Hungarian Welterweight does lose to his better opponents but always seems to give them some good, competitive rounds and we would expect to see that against Sabirov again here. However Toth is a natural Welterweight and this bout does look like it's taking place well above the 147lb Welterweight limit, shifting things more in the way of the Kazakh hopeful.
Akhmedov's opponents for the show will be Mexican fighter Daniel Vega Cota (14-3-1, 11), who has lost 3 of his last 6. Cota is a hard man to get a read on, with losses to rising prospects like Souleymane Cissokho and Roman Zakirov aswell as a loss to Jesus Gurrola, who is little more than a journeyman himself. Given that Akhmedov has been injured we can't complain about the youngster having an easier fight than his last one, but we really don't see how this will be a test for Akhmedov.
The third interesting note for this show is that it will feature the debut of 21 year old Aman Kazankapov (0-0) [Амана Казанкапова], who was an amateur stand out and took gold at the 2016 Asian Youth Championships. The youngster will be debuting in a 4 round bout against Mexican Ismael Molina Moreno (2-1, 2). Given how Eye of the Tiger Management usually treats it's top Kazakh talent we'd not be surprised to see Kazankapov kept active through the rest of 2019 and quickly make a name for himself as one to watch.
