Rangers new boy Joe Aribo checks in as Steven Gerrard shows Kyle Lafferty, Graham Dorrans and Jason Holt the exit door
JOE ARIBO checked in at Rangers as Kyle Lafferty, Jason Holt and Graham Dorrans were shown the door.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard fought off stiff competition to sign the Charlton midfielder.
Aribo is out of contract, but under cross-border regulations the Ibrox side will have to pay Charlton £300,000 compensation.
The 22-year-old will pen a four-year deal before joining up with the Rangers squad at their pre-season base in Portugal.
But Lafferty, Holt and Dorrans were notable absentees as Rangers arrived at their training camp.
SunSport understands the trio — plus Albanian winger Eros Grezda — have all been left behind in Glasgow and told to find themselves new clubs.
Gerrard has made it clear he does not see a future for any of them as he attempts to end Celtic’s stranglehold on the Premiership title.
Aribo is the seventh close-season arrival following the captures of Greg Stewart, Steven Davis, George Edmundson, Jake Hastie, Jordan Jones and Sheyi Ojo.
And it’s a major coup for Rangers who beat off Celtic and Premier League outfits Brighton, Bournemouth and Aston Villa to snare him.
Ten Championship teams were also in the running to land the highly-rated youngster while German side Stuttgart, Italians Torino and French club Rennes were also keen.
But Gerrard convinced Aribo his development would be better served north of the border.
The Ibrox boss has earmarked the midfielder for a key role next season, although there is no space in his plans for fellow middle men Holt and Dorrans.
Dorrans made just three appearances last season after struggling with injury while Holt spent the campaign on loan at Fleetwood Town.
Scotland international Dorrans has struggled to make an impact following his move from West Brom two years ago.
Holt was a key member of Mark Warburton’s Rangers side and is set to be reunited with the former Ibrox boss at QPR.
Northern Irish international Lafferty signed from Hearts last August but has found himself on the periphery.
Lafferty scored twice against Motherwell on his first start last season.

But he quickly fell out of favour and was forced to play second fiddle to strikers Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe.
While Lafferty, Holt, Grezda and Dorrans have been left behind, Gerrard has taken five youth players on the Portugal trip.
Youngsters Lewis Mayo, Josh McPake, Stephen Kelly, Dapo Mebude and Jamie Barjonas have all been given the chance to impress.
