Inside Andy Ruiz Jr’s training regime for Anthony Joshua rematch as roly-poly Mexican ditches Snickers for avocado and sharpens reflexes on the pads
ANDY RUIZ JR has stepped up his training regime ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua – swapping Snickers bars for avocado – while sharpening up his physique.
The Mexican star, 30, has already beaten Joshua, having inflicted the first loss of the British star’s career in June’s shock victory.
But now Ruiz is taking his commitment to boxing to a whole new level, looking trimmer, sharper and more powerful than ever.
Last month, Ruiz revealed he was stepping up his pre-Joshua work, sharing a clip of his pad work on Instagram.
The Mexican looked light on his feet – with his punching looking fast and powerful.
Ruiz captioned the short video: “Feeling good, camp is in full effect. My team and I are working hard one step closer to being ready for Dec 7th.”
He shared another clip of himself working on his hand speed, too – while also showing off his trimmer figure.
Ruiz wrote: “Hard work and dedication. Proud of my partner @bonobos for sharing my fit story.
“Grateful to those who inspired my journey – I hope it inspires yours. Dreams can come true! #LookAtMeNow”.
While many believe Ruiz has done nothing but milk June’s win with a series of parties, he’s actually been hard at work behind the scenes.
As well as his Instagram posts, the boxing sensation has also improved his cardio drastically, while working on his core strength for December’s Saudi Arabia bout.
The big thing for Ruiz was a switch-up in his diet, having tipped the scales at 19st for his first bout with Joshua.
Out go binges on chocolate bars and popcorn – and in comes healthy omelettes with spinach and avocado, chicken salads, plenty of fruit and nuts, lean meat and fish, with wholegrain rice.
And it appears to be paying dividends, with Ruiz even claiming he feels “lighter, faster and more powerful”.
The Mexican recently revealed: “I have a lot of respect for Anthony, outside the ring he is a very good man.
“But inside [the ring] there are no friends, there is no respect or anything.

“I will arrive in better condition…. lighter, faster and more powerful. They will believe that in December they will win.
“People will always talk like this, but I have faith that we’re going to win and shut up more mouths.”
