San Jose Earthquakes troll 4.5 seismic event, give shaken fans something to smile about
The next ESPY awards ceremony isn’t until next July. But already we have a winner — most responsive social media staff in North American professional sports.
You were probably trying to calm the pets in the minutes after a 4.5 earthquake hit south of Pacheco at 10:33 Monday night.
The San Jose Earthquakes social media team was on the job. Three minutes after the jolt came the first dose of hyper-professionalism:

Admittedly, the Earthquakes have a leg up on other professional franchises when it comes time to tie their team name with a potential natural disaster. I mean, the Portland Timbers? The New York Red Bulls?
Expand your search to all North American professional teams and what do you get? Baseball’s Blue Jays and Cardinals? NFL’s Rams, Broncos, Bears? NBA’s 76ers, Spurs and Jazz?
But hey, now, the NHL is ripe with the Flames, Avalanche, Sharks, Hurricanes and Lightning.
But until another social media team combines the Earthquakes’ inspiration, timing and comedic brevity, the Quakes are leaders in the clubhouse. They’ll be difficult to take down, because once a scrap of genius hits the great ether, Twitter followers tend to take it from there.
the quakes finally in the postseason (sorry)
