Eubank gunning for title opportunities
Eubank is currently rated #1 by the WBA.
With Chris Eubank Jr. holding prime position in the WBA’s middleweight ratings, he’s currently weighing his options as he tries to land himself a title shot — preferably, for him, sooner than later.
“I’m No 1 contender for the WBA world titles,” Eubank Jr told Sky Sports. “So Canelo has the ‘super’ version and Ryota Murata has the ‘regular’ version. I’m interim WBA world champion, so those are the fights that make sense. I want those belts.”
Eubank, 30, would go on by also throwing out names like Jermall Charlo, Gennadiy Golovkin as potential fights he has in his sights, saying that at his advancing age it’s important that he takes care of his prime years by being as active as he can while taking on meaningful fights.
“I’m 30-years-old, 31 in a week or so. We’ve got to go full steam ahead. I’ve got two, three years of prime, athletic ability left and then once you start hitting 34, 35, you start seeing that dip. I want to get in as many fights with as many top opponents as I can.”
But while consistently naming Charlo as a preferred foe, he knows Charlo is in deep against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, whom Charlo will defend his title against later this month. Eubank (29-2, 22 KOs) is most recently coming off a stoppage win Matt Korobov last summer, nearly a full year ago.
