Junki Shirasaki heading to the pros
Earlier today Junki Shirasaki [白崎隼樹] attended a press conference and whilst he wasn't the focus of the event it was interesting to see that he did play a notable and announce that he would become a professional fighter in the near future, having seemingly signed his professional papers.
Although not a truly elite level amateur Shirasaki did notch up more than 33 win in the unpaid ranks and came 5th in the National Polity. With his amateur experience he'll be taking the B License test, with the plan for that to happen in October, and he's likely to make his debut in a 6 round bout before the end of 2020.
Although footage of Shirasaki isn't too prominent the brilliant sakana 1976 has uploaded some amateur footage of Shirasaki and he looks a very competent. There's nothing that makes us feel he'll become a world champion, especially given he's now 27, but he has got the tools to be a solid domestic contender and he could, potentially, be moved relatively quickly towards a Japanese title.
Originally Shirasaki was expected to turn professional in Fukui but was invited to the Nitta Kawasaki and appears to be signed with them. That's not a bad option, given the success and reputation of the Nitta Gym which are a well respected gym, even if they aren't one of the big name ones.
