Masayuki Kuroda to face unbeaten prospect in November!
Earlier today we saw the announcement that 2-time world title challenger Masayuki Kuroda (30-8-3, 16) [黒田雅之] would be back in action in November, as he return to the ring for the first time since his 2019 loss to Moruti Mthalane. Not only did we get informed that Kuroda would be back in the ring, but we were actually given the who, when, and where for Kuroda's next bout.
The former world title challenger has been announced as part of a November 12th "Phoenix Battle" show at Korakuen Hall, in which he will be moving up to Super Flyweight to battle unbeaten prospect Ayato Hiromoto (2-0, 1) [廣本彩刀] in an 8 round bout.
The 34 year old Kuroda is a true veteran of the sport and has been one of the great servants of Japanese boxing. He has been a professional since 2005 and has managed to win the Japanese Light Flyweight and Flyweight titles and has twice fought for world titles, losing clear but competitive decisions to Juan Carlos Reveco and Moruti Mthalane.
At a press conference to announce the bout Kuroda revealed he has got a new job that has allowed him more flexibility to train properly and despite his age he does seem hungry to make a mark with what is left of his in ring career.
On the other hand Hiromoto is a 23 year old who only began his career in 2019, debuting in September 2019. In his second professional bout he beat Romel Oliveros, and this is a huge step up in class for him. In fact it's a massive leap up in class. He will however feel confident. He is the younger man, the naturally bigger man, and he turned professional with a decent amateur background, going 31-17 in the unpaid ranks.
Interestingly with this being announced as taking place on a Phoenix Battle show we are expecting to see a number of Ohashi Gym fighters announced for the card, and the potential for the show to be aired on Fuji TV, after all the channel has shown the last 3 Pheonix Battle shows and it would make sense to broadcast this one as well, if the show has a decent under-card fight or two.
