Ryusei Kawaura to fight on October 19th!
When we talk about top Japanese prospects there are a lot of fighters who get over-looked and lack the attention that their ability deserve. One great example of that is Super Flyweight hopeful Ryusei Kawaura (7-0, 4) [川浦龍生], who has been tipped as one to watch but gets very little fan fare.
Although not a big name prospect Kawaura is expected to move their rankings in the next few years, and potentially fight for a title in 2021. In fact originally plans had been for him to get a title fight in 2020, before the year became a bit of a write off for his career, and that of many others.
Thankfully we have learned that Kawaura's 2020 won't be a total write off, and we now know that he will have a tick over fight on October 19th, when he will battle in an 8 round bout against Musashi Yoshino (9-5, 3) [吉野ムサシ] at Korakuen Hall.
The unbeaten Kawaura is promoted by former world champion Hiroshi Kawashima, and has adopted Kawashima's nickname of "Untouchable", becoming "Untouchable II". Like his mentor Kawashima is a smart boxer with a cleaver defensive mindset, and has got the skills to go a very, very long way. Sadly though he has lacked the bouts needed to make a mark on the sport, and with his 27th birthday just over 6 months away it really is time he stepped up.
As for Yoshino his form has been inconsistent and he has lost 2 of his last 5. He's not a terrible opponent, but he really will be a very, very clear under-dog against Kawaura here.
