Chicago Bears Get Some Big News Ahead Of Home Opener
The Chicago Bears didn’t get to see their defense at full strength in Detroit and it showed. Eddie Goldman was missed in the middle. However, the most unfortunate setback was not getting to see prized free agent addition Robert Quinn suit up. Fans have salivated over what a pass rush with him, Akiem Hicks, and Khalil Mack would look like. Alas, an ankle injury last week robbed them of that chance.
After starting practice on a limited basis Wednesday, it wasn’t certain if the veteran would be able to make it for the home opener against the New York Giants either. However, there was a change on Friday afternoon. According to the team injury report, Quinn practiced in full for the first time. Though he was declared questionable for the game on Sunday, this is an encouraging sign that the new #94 will see his first action in a Bears uniform.

Chicago Bears hope to fully unleash their new toy
Quinn reportedly looked fantastic in the few training camp practices he worked last month. Every bit the dominant pass rusher he’s been for years. The idea he’ll have Mack on the opposite side with Hicks in the middle? This is something the Bears haven’t seen defensively in a long time. Obviously one hopes good health prevails so it’ll have a chance to really rev up in the weeks to come.
A big key for the Bears will be their run defense. New York undoubtedly knows their pass protection is sketchy after last week, allowing three sacks and several pressures on Daniel Jones. The idea of that trio coming at him next is not ideal. Their best hope is to establish Saquon Barkley on the ground. That is where the absence of Goldman could loom large.
It should be a fascinating afternoon of football.
