NEW MANDATE took a huge stride forward when winning in Listed company at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting. He knuckled down well to see off a useful rival in a fast time.

Stepping up to a mile looks a wise move and it’s telling that Frankie Dettori keeps the ride on Ralph Beckett’s rising star.

Cobh enjoyed cut in the ground when toughing it out at Salisbury last time out. He saw out this distance strongly there and any more rain would help his chances.

Gear Up moved from novice to Group 3 company when showing great heart in winning the Acomb Stakes at York. He looks a typical Mark Johnston runner who likes to go from the front and will prove a tough nut to crack again.

Ontario wouldn’t be one of the stars at Ballydoyle but he showed lots of promise when second in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at The Curragh last month. He won his maiden at this trip with some cut in the ground so should relish these conditions.

They all have a chance including Pleasant Man who went through the mud to win a minor race at Haydock on debut.

MISS AMULET was impressive stepped up to this distance when winning the Lowther Stakes at York last time.

She hit the front a long way out and did well to fight off the challengers, including Sacred who takes her on again. She likes a little bit of juice in the ground and can improve again under Ryan Moore.

Happy Romance got the better of Alcohol Free in a strong Group 3 at Salisbury 23 days ago.

She’s tough for a two-year-old and had already landed two big sales races before that. She had plenty left in the tank and will be right there again.

Dandalla created a big impression when landing a hat-trick of victories in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes on the July course. She’s had a little break since then but is a big talent who has every chance.

Umm Kulthum was third in the Lowther and dug deep to win at Ayr last week. She gives the impression that stepping up to seven furlongs would help at this level.

TACTICAL got a shocking ride from Pierre-Charles Boudot in France last time and will be a different proposition with William Buick back on board.

He was in the saddle when The Queen’s colt ran away with the July Stakes here in July. He relished this trip and looked the type to improve plenty. He looks a big price to get back on the winning track.

Supremacy was impressive in winning the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood but the form has been let down a little by the horses he beat home. That said, he was well clear and doesn’t have to improve much to go close.

Method looks a bigger threat after cruising to victory in a Listed contest at Newbury latest. He clocked a fast time and could have gone quicker. Frankie Dettori has a good record when teaming up with his trainer Martyn Meade.

Minzaal is another big threat after his convincing success in the Gimcrack at York. This trip and ground are ideal with the only worry being his habit of missing the break.

Lucky Vega has already won at this Group 1 level in the Phoenix Stakes and didn’t get the clearest runs when maybe not staying seven furlongs at The Curragh. He’ll be a threat back at this trip.

The Lir Jet needs to improve on his Phoenix second, while Lippizaner needs more.

SINJAARI showed his liking for a big-field handicap when taking the John Smith’s Cup at York in fine style.

He came with a tanking run despite meeting trouble in running and was value for a good bit more than the one-length winning margin. His best form has come over this sort of trip and he’s still improving.

Tempus looked progressive when landing a gamble over a mile at Ascot last time. This extra furlong should be ideal and a 4lb penalty could end up looking very generous.

Montatham and Sir Busker both love a cavalry charge like this and will be competitive despite climbing the weights.

The former came out on top when the pair met at York last month but Sir Busker often comes with a late rattle so this extra distance could be right up his street.

It’s telling that his usual rider Oisin Murphy has deserted him for Bell Rock who was a solid third at Goodwood when last seen in July. He goes off the same mark and is another on the shortlist.

Ilaraab is progressing nicely at lower levels and picked up well to score at Newbury last week. He looks ahead of the handicapper. 

HAYDOCK

DANYAH was knocked off his stride at a crucial moment when finishing a close-up third at Ripon 26 days ago.

That was a similar quality race to this and he appeared to improve plenty for stepping up to this mile. He comes here off the same mark and can make up for that disappointment.

Key Victory did well in Dubai earlier this year with a decent handicap win before he didn’t quite get home over further. He’s coming back from seven months off so many need this but is in the mix.

Hayadh had plenty in hand when scoring at Musselburgh two Saturdays ago. He saw out the mile strongly there and can figure again and has won off a similar mark.

Cardsharp is inconsistent but he’s dropping down the weights and a repeat of his Goodwood third two starts ago would give him every chance.

Alternative Fact has gone well here before and can be forgiven a poor effort at Goodwood last time. He is a fair 4lb higher than when winning here in July and this trip is ideal.

DARK SHOT came right back to his best when scoring at Leicester in double-quick time on Monday.

He’s turned out quickly under a 4lb penalty and has looked his old self since dropping to this minimum trip.

Came From The Dark finished with a rattle when beaten half a length by Count D’Orsay over course and distance last time. The former was a little unlucky and has every chance of turning that form around on better terms.

Militia’s winning run came to an abrupt end in that race and needs to bounce back.

Mid Winster enjoyed the cut in the ground when scoring at Ayr last week. He sat just off the strong pace before winning going away. This is a much hotter contest but he should be competitive from 5lb higher.

CURRAGH

3.15

AIDAN O’Brien has won this race for an impressive nine years in a row and he can make it a perfect ten with HIGH DEFINITION.

He looked a nice prospect when winning a maiden here on debut last month. The way he picked up strongly caught the eye and he can take another major step forward with that run under his belt.

Reve De Vol has been running well at Group level including when third at Leopardstown latest. Ger Lyons continues to have an excellent season and he can reach the podium again.

O’Brien also runs Brazil who ploughed through the mud here to get off the mark at the third time of asking. He shapes like further would suit but is good enough to hit the places.

Snapraeterea has struggled a little at this level but would have place claims if repeating the form of his maiden win at Roscommon last month.
