Saturday tips and verdict
1.35 CHACUN POUR SOI comes here on a high after his impressive Grade 1 win here at Christmas.
He left the useful Notebook trailing in his wake without having to hit top gear, to confirm his return to full power. He beat Min almost four lengths in this race 12 months ago and can repeat the feat.
It should be between those two again with Min looking for a third win in this contest. He won the Ryanair at Cheltenham last season and came back to take the John Durkan at Punchestown in December.
He looks booked for second but there’s no reason why he would see off his stablemate. Notebook looks the only other serious challenger.
He was put in his place last time but is a multiple Grade 1 winner and won’t mind plenty of cut. This track suits but Rachael Blackmore needs to conjure real improvement.
Sizing Pottsie can win the battle of the rags.
He took a tumble over hurdles last time but his best chase form has come in the mud, albeit at a lower level.
3.15 HONEYSUCKLE now has the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham on the agenda and she can take a big step towards that by maintaining her impressive unbeaten record.
She has already hoovered up four Grade 1s in a row, including the big mares’ race at the Festival. She came back from nine months off to land another Hatton’s Grace victory at Fairyhouse last time.
This is her toughest test so far but she’s capable of passing it. Sharjah is another with plenty of high-class form and won the Matheson for the third year running here at Christmas.
He was a disappointing sixth in this race 12 months ago but left that behind when second in the Champion at Cheltenham before his excellent effort last time.
Soft ground is fine and he’s a massive danger. The rest need to improve but Saint Roi is better than his fourth here in the Matheson latest.
He showed his guts when winning the County Hurdle and could nick third. Abacadabras wasn’t right last time and should get closer this time in ground that suits ideally.
Saldier will be fitter today and has winning form at this level but needs his very best. Petit Mouchoir needs a personal best to figure.
Sunday tips and verdict
MONKFISH looks tasty in Leopardstown’s 3.10.
He was high class over hurdles and landed a Grade 1 chase success here last time. He jumps really well and is already a superstar. Testing ground is no problem and Willie Mullins’ ace has a lot more to offer.
Here is my guide to Sunday’s action.

1.10: DYSART DIAMOND made light work of a big field when winning by more than three lengths here last time.
That was an impressive handicap debut for Willie Mullins and the winning margin could have been more. He can handle an 11lb hike in the weights with this slightly longer trip sure to suit.
Stablemate Lady Breffni loved the testing ground when scoring at Punchestown last month. This is tougher but he was second in a Grade 3 last year and has plenty of ability.
Telmesomethinggirl went from the front to score with lots in hand at Listowel when last seen in September. She goes handicapping now from a fair mark and has lots of staying power.
Rescue Package and Global Equity both come here in good form and both look open to improvement. Mrs Milner probably wants further but could come into this as a severe gallop could find out the non-stayers.
1.40 QUIXILIOS has hardly put a foot wrong so far and clocked up a hat-trick of hurdles wins when sauntering home by 20 lengths at Down Royal last time.
Gordon Elliott ups him in grade here but this two-mile trip is ideal and there should be a lot more to come. Youmdor is a Flat winner in France and landed a debut success for Willie Mullins over timber at Gowran in November.
He was going much the best when taking a final-flight tumble at Fairyhouse last month and will be right there if he’s over that mishap. The others have some improving to do but Ha D’Or was far from disgraced in a Grade 2 here at Christmas.
That was a tall order for his hurdles debut and shows the regard he’s held in at Closutton.
You would expect plenty more with that experience under his belt. Busselton was a place ahead of him making his own Irish debut for Joseph O’Brien that day and there won’t be a lot between them again.
Saint Sam didn’t get the run of the race in fourth but shapes like more of a staying type.
2.10 APPRECIATE IT looks hard to beat after his demolition job in the Future Champions’ hurdle here last time out.
He had nine lengths in hand of Irascible with Ballyadam, Keskonrisk and N’Golo all failing to land a blow in behind.
Paul Townend’s mount goes off level weights with those rivals here over a course and distance that we know is ideal.
One of the others would have to take a major step forward to improve past him. Ballyadam could win the battle for second as he went well for a long way before fading in the closing stages.
He has a Grade 1 success from Fairyhouse to his name and looks capable of better. Master Mcshee steps out of handicap company after a convincing success in a big field here.
He didn’t have to hit top gear in making it three wins on the spin. He’ll have to show more again these rivals but can’t be written off.
Blue Lord is another Willie Mullins runner with a chance of making the frame at long odds.
He was a bit too keen when second in a Naas Grade 1 last month and didn’t last over the 2m4f trip. Dropping back should help and he could run well if settling better for Bryan Cooper.
2.40 MOROSINI had no luck when a solid sixth in a big field here last time. He travelled nicely but kept having the door slammed in his face as the pace hotted up.
He had no problem seeing out the three miles and comes back off the same mark. Jessica Harrington won this a couple of years ago and looks to have another solid chance.
Willie Mullins fires several arrows at this and Dandy Mag could be the sharpest. He clocked a personal best when seeing off 19 rivals here at Christmas and got the trip strongly.
He has more weight today but has every chance of hitting the frame at least. Unexpected Depth was third in that race when his young rider may have challenged a bit too soon.
A more experienced pilot takes over today and he’s another to note. Damalisque has been hard to get on the track but was an impressive winner at Navan just nine days ago.
He has a 12lb penalty for that but will be a contender if this isn’t coming too soon. Koshari won a minor contest at Cork but could be much better than that level with Pure Genius and Ballyshannon Rose all in good form and worth a market check too.
3.10 This looks like a match between MONKFISH and LATEST Exhibition with Willie Mullins’ star fancied to come out on top.
He was already a Grade 1 winner over hurdles and landed his first chasing success at the highest level in great style here in December.
He jumped like an old hand and the winning margin could have been much further than the official three lengths.
Dropping back from three miles shouldn’t pose any problems and he can warm up for Cheltenham in style. Latest Exhibition was second in that race as he was when chasing the tip home in the Albert Bartlett Hurdle last season.
He wears a tongue tie for the first time here which could help but he needs a fair step forward to reverse the form. Andy Dufresne is progressing well and took a Navan Grade 3 last time with little fuss.
Moving up to this distance should help and he looks the clear pick of the rest. Asterion Forlonge is having problems getting round at the moment with two falls since winning on his chase debut. He’s best watched for now.
3.40 DELTA WORK can follow up last year’s win despite unseating early in the Savills Chase here last time.
That was a stumble rather than a jumping error and he can win another battle with Kemboy as he did 12 months ago.
The tip has a strong record over this course and distance with trainer Gordon Elliott reporting him in great form at home. Kemboy looks the main threat again after his near miss in that Savills.
He was chinned on the line after running his best race for a long time. A bit more rain would help his chances and it’s a slight worry that Paul Townend is not on board. He partners Melon who was third in the Savills.
He jumped really well and seemed a lot happier without the cheekpieces on. It wouldn’t take much more for him to get a well-deserved Grade 1 success.
Minella Indo is yet another who ran in the Savills and he was sent off a well-backed favourite. He hit the deck at the eighth fence in the first blip of his chasing career.
He was imperious at Navan before that and his second in last year’s RSA Chase at Cheltenham is fantastic form. It would be no surprise to see him bounce back.
