New date set for Takesako Vs Kunimoto
Last year we saw few bouts re-arranged as much as the one between Japanese Middleweight champion Kazuto Takesako (11-0-1, 11) [竹迫司登] and mandatory challenger Riku Kunimoto (4-0, 2) [国本陸].
Originally the bout was pencilled in for May 2nd 2020, before the pandemic forced boxing in Japan to go on hiatus. The bout was then scheduled for July 27th, before Kunimoto requested a delay, forcing the bout to November 7th, before Takesako got injured.
Now the bout has a fourth date set, and it's a full calendar year after the originally planned date, the bout now being announced for May 1st!
The bout was originally scheduled to be part of the 2020 Champion Carnival, and was set to be the final bout from Champion Carnival for the year. Sadly though the various issues with it kept forcing the date to be delayed. Thankfully however both men still wanted to go ahead with it, and will make for a fantastic main event for May's Dynamic Glove show.
Sadly, due to all the delays, Kunimoto will be fighting for the first time since April 2019. The delay is clearly a frustrating for the 23 year old, though getting an opportunity like this, on live TV via G+ against a Japanese champion, is clearly something he was happy to wait for.
At the time of writing nothing has been reported about the under-card, though we wouldn't be surprised to see former world title challenger Takeshi Inoue (17-1-1, 10) [井上 岳志] being added to the show in the coming weeks, along with other notable fighters from the World Sport Boxing gym.
