Tugstogt Nyambayar to face Chris Colbert in July!
Yesterday Keith Idec, writing for Boxingscene, broke the news that Mongolian star Tugstsogt Nyambayar (12-1, 9) [Нямбаярын Тогсцогт] would be back in action in early July as he has replaced Cuban veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-4, 18) for the July 3rd bout with WBA "interim" Super Featherweight champion Chris Colbert (15-0, 6).
The 39 year old Cuban veteran was forced to pull out after suffering injuries in train, and had to cancel the bout last week, leaving Colbert without an opponent until Nyambayar accepted the fight.
For Nyambayar this is a huge, and unexpected, opportunity but a great one for him to make a mark on a new division. He has struggled to stay busy at Featherweight in recent years, and a move up to 130lbs may well be the boost he needs in his career to actually build some momentum. He's shown he has the skills and power to make an impact at 130lbs, and we may even see him looking better with the added weight, as it's often been though that he's had to boil down hard to make Featherweight.
As for Colbert the unbeaten American will get the chance to face another notable name, to add to a string of victories against the likes of Alberto Mercado, Jezzerel Correales and Jaime Arboleda. In fact it's possibly fair to suggest a win over Nyambayar, at this point in his career, would be the best win on Colbert's record.
The bout it's self will feature on a card televised by Showtime and will be held at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
