Yamauchi and Nakayama make weight for WBO Asia Pacific title bout
Tomorrow at Korakuen Hall we'll see WBO Asia Pacific Flyweight champion Ryota Yamauchi (7-1, 6) [山内涼太] make his first defense of the title, facing off with fellow Japanese fighter Yuta Nakayama (8-3-1, 5) [中山祐太]. Today, ahead of their bout, the two men took part in their weigh in for the contest, and both men made the 112lb limit with no issues at all.
On the scales Yamauchi was bang on the limit and he sounded confident of making a good impression tomorrow. He's been out of the ring for quite a while, since winning the title in 2020, and it's fair to say he wants to get back on track and begin his move towards a potential world title fight later in the year. In fact talking to Boxmob, he even suggested that he was wanting Kadoebi to book him a world title fight and given his high WBA ranking no one can blame him for wanting a shot at world honours.
Nakayama on the other hand was comfortably under the limit, weighing in around 111.75lbs. He also spoke to Boxmob and whilst he seemed fully aware of the champions amateur pedigree, and high level of ability, he also seemed confident that he had the tools to deal with Yamauchi.
As well as both men making weight they also both had negative PCR tests.
