Schalke sells its esports team for €26.5m
July 1 – German football club Schalke 04 has completed the sale of its esports team, League of Legends European Championship licence, to Swiss organisation Team BDS for €26.5 million.
The sale represents brisk business for the Gelsenkirchen club, which acquired the league spot for just €8 million two years ago. Schalke had been looking to sell the spot as early as February, but the sale was only finalised after a five-month selection process led by Riot Games.
