Chelsea release new 2021-22 away kit in old school yellow as Mount vows to recreate ‘special memories of our heroes’
CHELSEA have unveiled their new away kit for the 2021-22 season – and brought back the yellow strip for the first time in three years.
The European champions have a long history of wearing yellow kits as an alternative to their royal blue, with the pinstripe hoops a nod to previous strips.
And the West London club’s star playmaker Mason Mount has vowed to try his utmost to achieve big things in the shirt.
Speaking after the announcement, the Chelsea midfielder said: “When you look over the years, you always remember the yellow kits on our heroes that made an impact.
“As players I feel we can do the same and create even more special moments in this new kit!”
The top will be accompanied by black shorts and yellow socks with a black stripe.
The ‘Pride of London’ logo is still present on the shirt, but has been sewn on to the inside of the jersey.
A major selling point of the yellow strip is that all of them – including the replica jerseys for the fans – are constructed with 100% recycled polyester fabric made from recycled plastic bottles.
Nike members will be able to purchase the kit from July 29 before it goes on sale nationwide on August 5.
Some Chelsea fans are pleased with the yellow kit as they reacted to the Nike-designed strip on social media.

One supporter said: “Better than the home Jersey. Am buying this one.”
And another added: “Pleasantly surprised tbh. I’ve never liked a yellow away kit – despite the success they usually bring, but this is nice.”
But others have been left disappointed by the decision to revert back to the yellow.
“Could genuinely be the worst shirt I’ve ever seen us have,” said one supporter.
And another fan added: “Whoever’s been designing the Nike football kits for the last few years needs to be fired.”
When the yellow kit was first leaked, some Chelsea fans thought it was reminiscent of Borussia Dortmund‘s shirt.
As a result, they jokingly said that it had been designed to try and entice striker Erling Haaland to the club.
