Musso: ‘I have always dreamed of playing in the Champions League’
Argentine goalkeeper Juan Musso looks forward to the Champions League nights with Atalanta but expects a ‘demanding year’ after his move from Udinese.
The 27-year-old has moved from the Friuli to the Orobici this summer and admitted he ‘always dreamed’ of playing in the Champions League.
Atalanta finished third in Serie A 2020-21 and are qualified for the third consecutive season, and Musso hopes the fans will be able to enjoy their run this term.
“I have always dreamed of playing in the Champions League and here I will be able to do so,” the goalkeeper told the club’s official channel.
“It’s a very important step in my career and I will give everything I have. We hope to play in front of our fans, that would be great.
“I’m enthusiastic and anxious thinking about what’s waiting for me.”
Musso revealed he has enjoyed Atalanta’s style of play during his years in Serie A and looks forward to be part of Gian Piero Gasperini’s team.
“I’m ready to defend the goal of a team that I have always appreciated since I arrived in Italy,” he continued. “I like the way they play and how they face every challenge.
“I will give my all to bring home the results, then we will do the maths at the end. It will be a very demanding year, with many important games on a tight schedule.”
Musso kept 14 clean sheets for Udinese in 2019-20 and eight last term and is hoping to continue his impressive form in the Nerazzurri shirt.
“I like to prepare myself in the best possible way, and if I’m unbeaten it happens due to the work of the whole team. I think that keeping a clean sheet is a result of everyone in the team,” Musso added and revealed football has not always been his favourite sport.
“I preferred basketball but over time, from the first few times I went in goal, I felt a special bond. Now, without a doubt, football is my favourite sport.”
Musso arrives after winning his first title with Argentina at the Copa America.
“A great feeling, an immense joy,” he said. “It was a very intense month. It was right to have some days off after a demanding season, but I couldn’t wait to start this new adventure and train here, get to know the sports centre and the stadium.
“I’m very happy.”
