Castrovilli sees Mancini influence on Italiano
Gaetano Castrovilli calls this ‘Year Zero’ for Fiorentina and believes new coach Vincenzo Italiano has a similar approach to Italy boss Roberto Mancini.
The midfielder took part in the UEFA EURO 2020 campaign which saw Italy victorious at Wembley, beating England on penalties to lift the trophy.
He has now returned to training after an extended vacation following that tournament and can’t wait to get started under a new coach.
“As soon as I arrived in Florence, I felt positive sensations. It’s Year Zero for all of us and I can’t wait,” Castrovilli told the official Fiorentina website.
“I had already heard good things about Italiano, he has a style of football that I really like and which reflects what we saw with the Italy side. Hopefully, we can achieve great things together.”
Like Mancini, former Spezia tactician Italiano also uses a very attack-minded 4-3-3 formation that focuses on keeping possession.
“I still can’t believe what happened this summer. The group dynamic made a big difference, as we were men first and then players. It was a wonderful experience and the more experienced players taught us a lot. Despite their age, they were running around like crazy, so we youngsters could only watch, learn and try to imitate them.”
