LAS VEGAS – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Friday’s official UFC on ESPN 29 fighter weigh-ins, where all but one fighter made weight – though one headliner did need a little extra time
The weigh-ins took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The same venue hosts Saturday’s card, which airs on ESPN and ESPN2 and streams on ESPN+.
Among those weighing in were Jared Cannonier (13-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) and Kelvin Gastelum (17-7 MMA, 11-7 UFC), who meet in the middleweight main event. Gastelum was initially one-quarter pound over the 186-pound limit but was given additional time and hit the limit on his second attempt, which came about 20 minutes after the initial two-hour window.
Bantamweight Saidyokub Kakhramonov (8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who stepped in as a late replacement on less than one week’s notice, did register 138.5 pounds for his matchup with Trevin Jones (13-6 MMA, 1-0 UFC). Kakhramonov was fined 20 percent of his purse, but the bout will go on as scheduled.
