Vendramini (9-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) meets Pimblett (16-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in the main card opener of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 191 where he will look to derail the hype train of the brash Liverpool native.
Competing under the Cage Warriors banner, Pimblett has emerged as one of the most popular fighters in the U.K. But Vendramini wants to show the former featherweight champion that the UFC is a different level than he’s used to.
“He seems to be a popular fighter in his own country,” Vendramini told MMA Junkie. “He’s had good fights in Cage Warriors. He has good jiu-jitsu and keeps a cool head during fights. He’s good at selling himself on the microphone – a showman. But we’ll see how he does on September 4. Talk is cheap. He’s been doing well outside the UFC. The UFC is a very different story. He could very well be the best fighter in England, but this is the World Cup.”
He continued, “Italy just beat England (at UEFA Euro 2020). In MMA, it won’t be any different.”
Vendramini will look to get back to the win column after losing a majority decision to Fares Ziam in his past outing at UFC 263. Having only competed three times since joining the UFC roster in 2018 due to a slew of injuries, the 25-year-old is looking to ramp up his activity.
“I don’t worry too much about what may have happened in the past,” Vendramini said. “I only look at my next bout. I take things one step at a time, both professionally and in my personal life. My low frequency of fights is due to two knee surgeries I underwent. Thankfully everything is fixed. I just fought in June. If all goes well, I’d like to be in the cage again before year’s end. I enjoy fighting frequently. I’d rather fight than to keep on training indefinitely.”
UFC Fight Night 191 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.
