World Cup qualifiers: Milinkovic and Kjaer on target
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was hero and villain for Serbia, forcing Nikola Milenkovic into an own goal, while Simon Kjaer and Mario Pasalic were among the Serie A players on target tonight.
There were several Serie A players in action this evening for international duty in the World Cup qualifiers.
Lazio midfielder Milinkovic-Savic got his head to a corner to give Serbia the lead in Dublin, but he was also responsible for the Republic of Ireland equaliser, firing his misplaced clearance into Fiorentina defender Milenkovic’s face from point-blank range, the ricochet from a couple of yards taking it into the net for a final 1-1 result.
Milan left-back Theo Hernandez finally made his France debut during a 2-0 win over Finland, albeit as a wing-back in a 3-4-1-2 formation.
It was a very Serie A inspired Denmark who crushed Israel 5-0, as Milan defender Simon Kjaer and Bologna midfielder Andreas Skov Olsen were on target.
So was ex-Parma striker Andreas Cornelius, completing the rout.
Hakan Calhanoglu’s Turkey were humiliated 6-1 by the Netherlands, in which new Atalanta signing Teun Koopmeiners made his debut and provided an assist for Guus Til.
Atalanta midfielder Mario Pasalic was on the scoresheet as Croatia swept Slovenia aside 3-0.
