Eight things the cameras didn’t show at UFC 272 including Covington’s off-air roar, Khabib’s anger and a sad Masvidal
UFC 272 is in the books and the blockbuster card will live long in the memory.
After four years of trash talking, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal finally got the opportunity to settle their ‘blood feud’ inside the octagon.
Former interim welterweight champ Covington dominated his old room-mate and ‘best friend’ for five straight rounds to declare himself the ‘King on Miami’.
The cameras at the T-Mobile Arena picked up several interesting moments inside and outside of the cage.
But there were also several other moments not shown on air.
SunSport had a front-row view for all of the action at the T-Mobile Arena.
So it’s only right we share with you what went on behind the scenes during the Sin City fight card.
Coach Khabib tells off team-mate BEFORE fight
Most read in Sport
Former UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov was in attendance at the T-Mobile Arena to coach his cousin, Umar, and team-mate Tagir Ulanbekov.
Ulanbekov was the first of back-to-back coaching assignments for the new trainer – who was in no mode for messing around.
After Ulanbekov entered the octagon for his flyweight bout with Tim Elliot, the Russian prospect clocked some of his pals in the crowd.
Delighted that they’d come to show their support, he jumped onto the fence and started speaking to them.
That annoyed Coach Khabib – who gave him a swift telling off and a reminder to focus on the task at hand.
Ulanbekov, through no fault of his own, would go on to suffer a controversial unanimous decision loss to former flyweight title challenger Elliot.
High rollers section
UFC supremo Dana White revealed prior to the event that Billionaire Row would make a return for the stacked Sin City card.
The veteran promoter delivered on his promise and then some – devoting a bigger and more lucrative spot for the big spenders and celebs to view the fights from.
Country Rock star Zac Brown was just one of the many notable faces spotted by SunSport, with the tatted-up musician sitting next to UFC legend Donald Cerrone.
Mr Olympia sighting
Speaking of notable sightings, SunSport also clocked seven-time 212lb Mr Olympia Flex Lewis in the crowd.
The Welshman – who is a big fan of MMA – was sat just behind the lucrative high rollers section.
Although it’s been nearly four years since he last set foot on the Olympia stage, Flex looks as good as ever.
Maybe we’ll see him back on bodybuilding’s greatest stage this year.
Covington’s sister next to Kamaru Usman’s dad
Covington’s sister – Candace – was just one of several of the MMA Masters star’s loved ones in attendance for his third pay-per-view headliner.
And she was sat just a few chairs away from Kamaru Usman’s father, Muhammed.
Covington, of course, made repeated reference to Muhammed’s incarceration during the build-up to his two defeats to welterweight champ Kamaru.
Dana White greets fans and takes selfies
Despite being one of the most heavily-flanked and busiest men on fight night, White took the time to take selfies with fans as he made his way backstage during the co-main event.
And he did the same on his way back to his cageside seat.
The fans sitting next to SunSport couldn’t believe their luck when White took the time to greet and take pictures with them.
Colby Covington’s off-camera declaration
After the cameras shut off and Covington made his way backstage, he had a message for the select media sat cageside.
A jubilant Chaos, 34, said: “I run the f***ing 305! I’m the king of 305.”
Jorge Masvidal’s sadness
Two time welterweight title challenger Masvidal cut a frustrated and dejected figure as he made his way past press row after defeat to his former buddy.
But the 37-year-old fronted up and faced the media in the post-fight press conference after the gutting loss.
Steve-O gatecrashes post-fight press conference
Jackass star and avid MMA fan Steve-O was one of the celebs in attendance for the UFC’s third pay-per-view card of the year.
And he gatecrashed the post-fight press conference as White addressed the media.
The cheeky stuntman – who pulled out his tooth when he was shown on the big screen – came crashing in with a camera mounted on a handheld tripod and smiled after being clocked in the media tent.
