Trevor Siemian Got An Ugly Welcome To Chicago
Trevor Siemian joined the Chicago Bears last month, embracing the challenge of becoming Justin Fields’ new backup quarterback. It was supposed to be a big homecoming for him, having made a name for himself at Northwestern before going to the NFL in 2015. He might be second-guessing that decision after the city gave him a rude reception mere weeks into his return.
According to Chicago City Wire, Siemian was attending a local golf course at the Beverly Country Club. There he found his new Dodge SRT muscle car stolen from the parking lot and another belonging to a Morgan Chase bigwig. That is a $60,000 vehicle. There aren’t any details as to who is responsible, but one can imagine the 30-year old quarterback wasn’t overjoyed upon receiving the news. Probably not the start to his time in Chicago he was hoping for.
“Only a few weeks after it was announced that Trevor Siemian would be joining the Bears as a backup quarterback, some Chicagoans gave him a 2020’s welcome by stealing his car while it was parked on the South Side about a week ago.
Chicago City Wire confirmed that one of two cars stolen from Beverly Country Club, 8700 S Western Ave., was a new Dodge SRT belonging to Siemian.
The second car stolen was owned by Michael Gallagher, managing director at Morgan Stanley, sources tell Chicago City Wire.”
Siemian is far from the first victim in such cases.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported in March that auto thefts are up 45% in the Chicagoland area. Law enforcement hasn’t found a way to combat the spikes since the pandemic began in 2020. Mayor Lori Lightfoot has challenged businesses to hire better security, which one can imagine hasn’t made her the most popular figure lately. One can safely guess she won’t be on the good side of Trevor Siemian after this incident.
Thankfully he just signed a contract with the Bears for $4 million over two years. So the hit isn’t too bad from a financial perspective. He can probably buy a brand new car without breaking a sweat. Still, it is a grim reminder of how unfriendly the city can be these days. Here is hoping the experience doesn’t sour the quarterback on it too much.
In truth, nobody would blame him if he regrets not taking that deal from the Las Vegas Raiders right about now.
