Wayne Rooney named head coach of D.C. United

D.C. United named former Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney as their new head coach on Tuesday.

Rooney, 36, played forward for D.C. United from 2018-19 and registered 23 goals and 15 assists in 48 games.

He spent the past two years as the manager of English Championship side Derby County before resigning last month.

Rooney will replace interim coach Chad Ashton upon receipt of his visa. Ashton took over
