NEWCASTLE have reportedly been approached by Chelsea and Tottenham for star winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

But the London rivals are refusing to match the Magpies‘ £40million asking price for the French forward.

It was claimed last month how the 25-year-old was on Spurs’ radar with Antonio Conte looking to bolster his attack.

And it was also stated that the ex-Nice ace has grown frustrated by the wage structure at St James’ Park with his head turned by the prospect of bigger salaries elsewhere.

Despite chipping in with just five goals and as many assists in 35 Premier League outings last term, Saint-Maximin is believed to be a wanted man this summer.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea, Spurs and a number of European sides have made enquiries to sign the Les Bleus youth international.

But the clubs have balked at the Toon’s £40m valuation of Saint-Maximin.

Potential suitors were looking to snap up the exciting winger in a cut-price fee due to Newcastle’s newfound wealth.

But Newcastle aren’t willing to part ways with him on the cheap, which has extinguished serious interest in the former Monaco man.

Saint-Maximin is said to be seeking a new deal, but Newcastle have told his team that he must show them he deserves fresh terms.

In an interview with Goal in May, Saint-Maximin declared that he is happy being a part of Eddie Howe’s side.

He said: “To be honest, right now I don’t see myself leaving Newcastle.

“After that, there are a lot of things that can change. Several big clubs approached me for a future transfer.

“These are clubs that did not come for me when I was in Nice. Newcastle came at a very important time in my career.

“They gave me a lot of confidence. I am a very grateful person.

“That’s why, moreover, even at times when it could be very complicated for the club, like last season, I decided not to leave so that I had the chance. I feel good here.”
