Hyun Mi Choi Vs Aka Ringo - Cancelled
Over the weekend it was revealed that the planned bout between WBA female Super Featherweight champion Hyun Mi Choi (19-0-1, 5) [최현미] and unbeaten Japanese novice Aka Ringo (3-0, 2) [中井麻美], which was scheduled for August 15th.
The reason for the bout being cancelled is unclear, though sources have revealed it was "due to circumstances regarding the champion". This could mean that Choi was unable to make weight, something we tend to feel is unlikely to be the cause given she has often stayed in great shape between fights, or a financial issue regarding the promoter, something that seems more likely given her team have often struggled to make ends meet financially and has been used to explain her lack of activity since winning the Super Featherweight title.
At the moment it's unclear what Choi will be doing next, however Ringo has immediately been pencilled in for a different fight, this time with Ringo taking on Bo Mi Re Shin (12-1-3, 6) [신보미레] on September 4th for the WBC International Women's Super Featherweight title.
